Chapter 2 Something as A Free Lunch
Chapter 2 Something as A Free Lunch
Julian Mccarthy seemed to be a man arrogant and coldly serious to everyone. Standing beside him,
one should avoid the annoying hot weather to feel cooler.
Under the street light, Sadie looked down at the cheque to know how much money she would get. The
amount greatly surprised her so that her hands started to shake. At the time, Julian got in the car with
his bodyguard to leave. Only the astonished Sadie was still here silently.
A moment later, the five cars parking in front of the building also left in turn.
Sadie slapped her face slightly to make her mind back to the real world. And then she started to rub her
own chin that was pinched hard by him.
This was not a dream; it was real for all the happening here…In fact, she tried to ask for only one
million dollars, but Julian gave her a cheque of fifty million dollars!
In addition, it was totally incredible that he did not request her to do anything!
Sadie slapped again. She saw the corner of the street too quiet now, without any of his cars returning.
She had a concern about their coming back, so stayed here to wait for him. Until she thought nobody
would be back and Dean Esme could be saved with the fund, she was happy to rush back to the lobby
of hospital with hem of the wedding dress in her arms.
Early in the next morning, Sadie was waiting outside a bank. When the bank opened, she went to clear
the cheque immediately. It also confused her that the staff in bank was extremely nice to her, never
doubtful about the cheque real or fake.
After walking out of the bank, she was still some of unsure about what happened in the bank. Now she
got the cash of amazing fifty million in hands. It was too heavy. Julian was such a generous man to give
her a big amount of money!
Sadie shook her head; she could not wait until finishing the breakfast and rushed back to the hospital to
pay the bill.
Then Dean Esme got an operation by doctors. Luckily, it was a well-done operation. However, the
cancer cells had spread in her body so that she would have another one later, and meanwhile, receive
chemotherapy between operations.
Sadie waited outside of the ICU room for some time. She left tiredly till the doctors asked nobody to
stay or take care of Dean Esme. The bill for operation had been paid off, which allowed her to feel
much relieved.
Now her wedding dress was badly dirty and her makeup was smudged as well. Yet she did not worry at
all with such an amount of money belonging to her.
Since Dean Esme was sick, Sadie had not been relaxed. On the weekdays, she attended the classes
in daytime and in the evening, joined many fashion shows with Talia Burns, the owner of the wedding
dress shop as well as an agent from a model company.
It sounded easy to work as a modal in fashion shows, but Sadie did not earn much from it because
Talia, as an agent, shared more of the total pay than her. Besides, she had a horrible wound on her
cheek that she usually wore a mask to cover. Guests of shows complained about her wearing mask
many times.
Sometimes, from the shows of one night, how much Sadie earned usually could not cover one-day bill
for Dean Esme in hospital.
Julian gave her so much money for no reason. Sadie felt confused about why he did it, but could not
tell why she questioned about his intention. Anyway, if she met him in the future, she would try to return
the money to him.
When she got off the bus, it was not busy time in the wedding dress shop. All the staff were having
lunch together and said hello to her when she came in.
Sadie went to change to her own dress and removed the makeup. Everything was finished; she did not
expect Talia to call her name when ready to leave.
Talia looked at Sadie and talked with her in a cheesy way instead of the usually impatience, “I have a
customer who asked you to take a job. The price is very good, sixty thousand dollars per day. Since
your mommy got sickness, I have not given you a hand. So, I will not share with your pay this month.”
Sadie could not believe it and asked, “Really? Talia. Who can pay me sixty thousand dollars one day?
And What should I do?”
Talia started to fix the hair for Sadie and answered, “Play a bride, but no need to say anything in the
activity. Nothing else to do. Just collect the payment after it finishes. Somebody will pick you up at 9:00
am next Saturday. Sadie, you have followed me for almost one year. Right? Try your best for the job.
Maybe you get a chance of the entertainment to become famous.”
Sadie was so excited to give Talia a hug, “I would appreciate your help if I made it.”
Talia patted on her shoulder and took her to the car to drop off to the orphanage.
Sadie was too happy all on the way to think more. After back to the orphanage, she said goodbye to
Talia and went upstairs to hold the elder sister, Libby Webb in her arms and go joyfully in a ring.
If Sadie succeeded in the entertainment, she would pay all money back to the stranger Julian. But soon
she realized that she might only play a dead woman or zombie for her hurt face, she turned to calm
down.
After thinking again, Sadie did not believe Talia told truth. However, Talia promised not to share the pay
with her no matter what the truth was.
Libby pushed Sadie away to ask, “Why are you so happy today? Otto Newman gave you money or you
got something as a free lunch?” She went to sit down on the wooden sofa in the living room and
continued to say, “I have a lot of tutor jobs this month. How can I finish all of them?”
Sadie stopped her smile and felt disturbed as soon as hearing the name of Otto Newman. She went
back to her own room.
It was impossible for her to receive his money.
After a shower, Sadie looked at herself in the mirror of the bathroom and had a deep breath. She was
eager to know the man who gave her so much money and why he did it.
She had been worried a lot since she got the money from him. She was afraid that he asked her to
return unexpectedly. But he did not appear to request something after one night; it seemed that he just
gave a beggar incidentally.
It was surprisingly expensive to give fifty thousand dollars to a beggar.
With the idea in her mind, she just had a looked at her own face in the mirror and then looked down at
her breast. She laughed at herself about the ridiculous idea.
Sadie believed he intended to amuse himself to pay such an ugly woman.
But now she remembered that when Khalid issued the cheque, he told her that “Here is no reporter and
nobody else. We’re safe.” If like that, the man gave her money in order to let her keep the secret of
ever meeting him in the hospital?
It should make sense. She could not think out any other reasons except it.
Just the moment she was absent-minded, Libby yelled unhappily outside of the bathroom, “Sadie, have
you finished the shower?’
“All right.” Sadie stopped thinking more and tidied up the hand washing area, then opened the door to
go out with her own laundry. She said to Libby, “Bring your dress to the balcony after your shower. I can
do all the laundry together.”
Libby answered her quietly but still looked annoyed.
It was already noon time after Sadie finished all the laundry. She went to downstairs to have lunch in All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
dining room and then got back to her room to fast sleep.
At night, she worked for another fashion show and got washed after back to the orphanage. Lying on
the bed, Sadie was too exhausted to move anywhere else. She zoned out for a moment; later she
found Libby on the opposite bed sending messages on the phone, which made her feel some of
envious.
Every day Otto just sent Sadie one simple message to say “good night”.
There was not any punctuation, neither was some emoji in the message.
Even so, she was happy to receive his message. Sadie could imagine how he was editing the
message; Otto, who had such bright eyes, should pull his lips together at that moment, always with a
slight smile.
That was always what he looked like. He did not say anything; as long as he was getting closer to her,
Sadie would feel so nervous to have her heart leap abruptly out of her body.
Just now, Libby started to ask her for a gloat, “Has Otto not come to see you for long time? But
somebody told me he recently meets the young daughter from the Brooks family very often.”
