Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Abby’s Revelation

It had truly been a wonderful weekend for Amber, one she wished could stretch on endlessly. Regrettably, she needed to return to New York alongside Devlin. With her responsibilities to manage her company, she couldn’t linger any longer.

She hoped her grandmother would accompany her back to New York , but marmee was adamant about remaining at the farm. She expressed that her life was deeply connected to the farm. Amber was sad that she couldn’t convince her grandmother to come at all. She promised to come visit her more often.

Currently, Amber finds herself in her office, engrossed in sifting through her paperwork when the sound of a knock interrupts her concentration. The source of the interruption is Devlin, his appearance suggesting he has recently taken a shower. His hair is still damp and he is freshly shaven. Without hesitation, Devlin strides purposefully toward her, bestowing a kiss upon her lips.

“Good morning, baby,” he greeted, a radiant smile on his face as he looked at her. Amber found herself speechless and just gazing at her husband’s face. He had acted swiftly, catching her off guard. Behind Devlin stood Abby, whose lack of astonishment at Devlin’s actions was evident. Amber’s gaze shifted to her secretary, and in those moments, a sudden idea formed in her mind.

‘Could she possibly be one of those who were guarding her?’ She recalls Devlin’s words. One of her bodyguards held a position of great trust. A gasp escaped her lips as surprise washed over her. The likelihood is significant – it might just be Abby.

Devlin anticipated her thoughts before she had a chance to voice them.

“Babe, she’s the one I was about to tell you last time before marmee interrupted us,” Devlin said, confirming what she had suspected. Nevertheless, she was still surprised to hear Devlin actually confirm it.

“I apologize, ma’am. I’m worried about disappointing you by concealing the truth,” Abby admitted, her gaze fixed downward as guilt weighed on her. She understood the depth of Amber’s trust in her, which extended beyond their professional relationship into a meaningful friendship.

“It’s Amber for you. I’m not upset with you, Abby. I’m just surprised,” she said, moving in to hug Abby.

“Thank you for helping Devlin in keeping me safe,” Amber expressed with heartfelt gratitude.

“I wanted to apologize if you’ve ever thought that I only befriended you as part of my job. But really, I genuinely want to express my gratitude for how you’ve treated me as more than just an employee. Thank you for the friendship you’ve extended to me,” Abby said with sincerity, which brought a tear to Amber’s eye.

“Please skip the formality, Abby. I am your friend, not just a boss.” She said while smiling at Abby.

All three of them are now seated on the couch, engaged in a conversation about Abby’s role protecting her. It has come to light that Abby’s family actually owns a reputable security agency and her father is a retired army officer. While Abby herself hasn’t divulged many details about her profession, it’s becoming evident that her job entails much more than just being a standard bodyguard.

“I still couldn’t believe what you did for me, Abby. It’s truly astonishing. You appear to be a regular employee, and the idea of you holding a gun or taking on those criminals physically is beyond my imagination. Your demeanor seems more suited for the office than active fieldwork.” Amber chuckled softly, still couldn’t believe that Abby is a legit kick-ass undercover.

Who would have thought that the gorgeous and slender woman who posed as her secretary was actually a formidable bodyguard? No one could have anticipated that Abby was skilled in combat.

“Fighting someone is not typically within my usual activities. I usually go undercover. I avoid conflict unless the circumstances necessitate it.” Abby remarked nonchalantly, as if it were an ordinary task.

“Actually babe, she’s quite talented. She might even outperform her brother,” Devlin remarked, eliciting only a wry smile from Abby.

Amber discovered that Abby’s brother was actually a friend of Devlin’s. This connection was what enabled him to seek Abby’s assistance.

“Oh don’t tell him that, or he might threaten to wring your neck. He was already a bit miffed at me for snagging quite a few jobs from him. He keeps complaining that it was because of me that he has to stay in the company.” Abby’s remark elicited a hearty laughter from Devlin.

“I can’t imagine Colby in the office. And you made your brother sound boring.” Devlin responded. He had met Abby’s brother during his brief stint in the military. Although Devlin chose a different path, Colby continued his military career and has now risen to the rank of a decorated military officer.

After a considerable amount of time talking about Abby’s brother, the atmosphere turned serious as Devlin initiated a discussion about the issues they are currently facing.

“So tell me, what’s the progress of your investigation? This is becoming incredibly exasperating. I’m determined to apprehend whoever is behind all of these troubles. I want to live in peace with my wife.” he spoke to Abby, yet his grip on Amber’s hand remained firm.

“We are actively working on the matter. Our mastermind remains an enigmatic figure. It’s striking how familiar he seems to be with your background, almost as if he were a part of your family. Nonetheless, I meticulously revisited all the information concerning your family members that underwent investigation before. We still reached the dead-end. But something has been nagging me. And I could not put it in place.” Abby said while deep in her thoughts.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.

She is convinced that whoever the mastermind is, they must have a close connection to Devlin. Someone he trusts implicitly. This person seems to be privy to Devlin’s every move, always poised to act whenever Devlin makes a move. Just last night, as she sifted through her files, an idea took shape in her mind. A single photograph triggered her suspicions about a certain individual. If her intuition, which has proven accurate countless times, holds true, she might be on the brink of apprehending the culprit. However, she’s refraining from sharing her thoughts with Devlin for now, opting to gather more evidence. The suspect’s record appears unblemished, devoid of any known criminal activity. Yet, she’s delving deeper into the suspect’s background to unveil any hidden layers. Probably, somewhere along his past, he must have done something wrong.

“I really hope that your investigation can be concluded soon. The longer this criminal remains anonymous, the more threats we continue to receive from him. And who knows what else he can do,” Devlin expressed with obvious frustration. Amber reached out and gently touched his back, hoping to help him find some calmness.

“It’s alright, babe. We’re in this together,” she whispered, her words carrying to Abby’s ears. Abby couldn’t help but catch her boss’ comforting words. She genuinely felt happy for Amber. For the last few years that she has been with Amber, she has come to recognize Amber’s exceptional qualities. Her boss was a person of remarkable kindness and thoughtfulness, always ready to extend a helping hand. Her unparalleled work ethic also garnered admiration from all her employees. Usually, Abby wouldn’t consider forging friendships with her clients, but Amber was an exception. Her innate caring nature would pull anyone like a magnet, drawing people in. And she just witnessed Amber’s deep concern for her husband. No wonder Devlin would move mountains just to make sure Amber is protected.

“By the way Mr. Wesley, I’m planning to take this opportunity to go on leave. There’s something I need to investigate personally – I want to confirm my suspicions.” Abby’s gaze shifted between Amber and Devlin. This time, she felt the urge to conduct the investigation herself. She sensed that a crucial piece of the puzzle is missing, and she is determined to uncover it soon. The clock is ticking and the looming threat is unpredictable. If her hunch was right, Amber and Devlin could be in grave danger.

“Alright, take whatever time you need. I just hope that this time, you can bring some good news,” Devlin said with his serious tone.

“Oh no, you just took my best staff in the company.” Amber complained to Devlin. Her disappointment was evident, but a glint of amusement danced in her eyes as she playfully teased her husband. Undoubtedly, Abby is exceptionally efficient in her role. Nevertheless, she currently shoulders more important and crucial responsibilities.

Abby only chuckled at what Amber said. Shortly after, she excused herself. She needed to finish her pending work so Amber won’t have a hard time when a new secretary will take her place.

Devlin had to answer a phone call while Amber decided to go back to her table. Half an hour later, Devlin finally finished his business call.

“Hey babe, I have a few meetings lined up today. Would you be alright here?” Amber simply nodded at him. She is also going to be busy.

“Anyway, I will come pick you up after work. You are coming with me to my place.” He declared casually without even asking Amber’s opinion.

“By the way, earlier I dropped by your condo and had the maids collect some of your stuff. If you’d like, we can also visit your place if there’s anything else important you want to bring along,” Devin mentioned nonchalantly.

Since their reconciliation, Devlin had been gently coaxing her to move in with him at his residence. Whenever he’s in New York for business, he’s got his own house to crash at – an inheritance from his grandfather.

“Seriously? You took the decision to move my things to your place? I haven’t agreed yet to moving in with you.” Amber said but Devlin only smiled at her sheepishly.

“If the decision were solely yours, you would take forever to pack your things and move in with me. Babe, let’s not waste any day or moment far away from each other. Your rightful place is by my side, just as mine is by yours,” he declared with unwavering certainty. Amber simply responded with an eye roll but deep inside her, she is overwhelmed with happiness. Her husband could not even muster the patience to wait a mere few days for her to make the transition and move in with him.

“Besides, you owe me big time.” He winked at her, planting a kiss on her lips before exiting her office. He left Amber puzzled. It took her a few moments to realize the meaning of his final remark. A warm blush spread across her cheeks. Good thing that he already left. Or else, he would continue teasing her which has become his habit these past few days.
