"Mat..." Melisa lowered her voice. "I understand your intentions, but our mother would be sad if she
knew you lied to her."
Mathew was also worried.
Looking up, he sighed and said, "I know the truth will come out eventually, but our mother is not
recovering yet. I'll tell her the truth when she's feeling better."
"Okay. I hope our mother won't be too sad when she finds out the truth."
"Well. Mum will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. When she goes back home, I'll take some
time off to spend more time with her," said Mathew.
Melisa nodded her head and said, "Mat, as long as you stay with Mum, I'm sure she'll recover quickly."
"Thanks to Professor Greer. Our mother is recovering. Norah was the one who got Professor Greer,
and not only did Norah promise to be my fake girlfriend, but she did our mother a huge favor. Now think
about it. Don't you think what you said to her was too much?"
Mathew mentioned Norah in a roundabout way.
"Mat, I feel a bit sorry for her, but it's not all my fault. I didn't even know you guys were a fake couple.
I'd assumed she was my future sister-in-law."
"Think about it! As your sister, it was calm enough for me to be like this after I bumped into my future
sister-in-law cheating on you."
"What about now? Now that you already know the truth, shouldn't you go and apologize to her?"
Melisa immediately lowered her head. She remained silent after a long time.
She had said so many harsh words. She and Norah had pretty much fallen out. She was too proud to
apologize to Norah even if her brother told her to.
"You don't want to go and apologize to her?" Mathew asked patiently, seeing through her.
"It's not that I don't want to go. I just feel awkward. It's so embarrassing."
Mathew patted her on the shoulder and said carefully, "Melisa, Norah is not an unreasonable person.
Before I came here, Norah didn't explain even though she was very aggrieved. And she didn't even
fight back against you."
"All she needs is an apology from you. Trust me. She'll accept it."
"Really?"
"Well, I promise."
"Okay then, Mat. I'll go apologize to her, but will you accompany me?"
"Okay."
After Mathew and Melisa had a discussion, they walked towards the stairway.
Not far away, Kaitlyn slowly made her way back to the ward with her haggard body propped up.
Thinking about the scene she had just seen, she suddenly gasped for air. Her heart ached.
She had just had surgery not long ago. Her heartache was not a good sign.
Holding on to her breath, she immediately pressed the emergency button.
Janet had just reached the door moments before she heard the alarm. It scared her so much that she
frantically ran towards the ward on her heels.
She was extremely scared.
"Mum, what's wrong?" Janet asked as she dropped her handbag and ran frantically to Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn's face was pale. She was breathing heavily.
Although Janet was always calm, she was so anxious that her palms were sweating.
Luckily, the doctor arrived just in time. After giving her a physical examination, the doctor installed an
oxygen bottle for Kaitlyn to let her breathe oxygen for a while.
After a few minutes, Kaitlyn's breathing became normal. Her heartbeat also returned to normal.
"Mum, the doctor said all your vital signs returned to normal. How are you feeling? Does your heart still
ache?" Janet bent down and asked in a gentle voice.
Kaitlyn nodded. At the same time, she gave a faint smile. "Janet, I'm feeling better now. My breathing is
normal. My heart doesn't hurt anymore. Don't worry about me."
"Hmm."
Janet calmed down, but she was terrified enough at the thought of the scene she had just seen.
She turned to look at the doctor. Then she and the doctor walked out of the ward.
Janet said, "Doctor, thank you. I don't know what happened to my mum. Is this the lingering symptoms
of the surgery?"
The doctor shook his head and said, "Miss O'flagen, don't worry. Your mother's surgery was a success.
Her heart hurts because she's still recovering. Her heart hasn't fully recovered yet. Probably because of
her shortness of breath, she was short of oxygen for a while, which caused her heart pain. "
"Shortness of breath?" Janet wondered.
"Based on your mum's condition, the probability is that she was short of breath due to being too
emotional. Although her surgery was successful, I've read her medical history. She has more pre-
existing conditions in her heart. And those medical conditions are more complicated. You guys must
pay attention to your mum's emotions in the future. Remember not to let her have too many emotional
ups and downs. Especially don't let her get too sad or excited."
"Okay, doctor. I got it."
After returning to the ward, Janet was still worried.
It took her one more look to realize a serious issue.
"Where's Melisa? Didn't I ask her to keep an eye on you? Where is she?"
Janet looked round and couldn't see Melisa. She immediately was enraged.
At the same time, she took out her mobile phone and was about to call Melisa.
As soon as Kaitlyn heard that, she immediately reached out and pulled Janet's hand. "Janet, don't call
her yet."
"What? Mum."
"Melisa is with your brother right now. They have some issues to take care of. They'll be back when
they're done," said Kaitlyn.
"Mum, what could be more important than you? No way. I have to get her back now. Luckily, I just got
here. And the doctor came in time. You're alright. Otherwise, I'll have to skin her."
Thinking about the scene just now, Janet still had lingering fears. Her heart was in her throat.
Kaitlyn pulled her hand and said, "They're a bit of a mess. They went down to find Norah. Help me up."
"Yeah."
After sitting up, Kaitlyn looked at Janet with her soft eyes seriously and said, "Janet, tell me honestly if
you knew that Mat and Norah were pretending to be a couple."
Her daughter was very good at observing and reading people.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have been in charge of the entire O'flagan Family by herself alone and run the
company in good order.
"Mum, you know all about it?"
Janet didn't hide it.
Since her mum asked her that, it meant she already knew. It would be pointless if she kept it hidden
any longer.
"Let me ask you if Norah already has a boyfriend."
Janet froze for a moment and said, "I'm not sure if she has a boyfriend. However, she was married. Her
ex-husband is Martin's grandson, Shawn, the current heir to the Lawson family, but they divorced a few
months ago."
"So did your brother know all about it?"
"Yes." Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
"Well..." Kaitlyn couldn't help but sigh. "What a pity."
"She was a pretty good girl. I liked her a lot. She's gentle, elegant, beautiful, and generous. Even
though she wasn't a socialite and did not come from a wealthy family, I knew that she'd been brought
up well the moment I looked at her. And she studied medicine. What a pity."
"Mum, I thought you'd mind about her being married once." Janet asked, a little surprised.
"All of that is not that important. There's no best option, but the fact that she got married once doesn't
mean anything. What matters is that Mat likes her. Don't you see how much your brother cares about
her? He has an affectionate look in his eyes."
