Her mind lingered on her past, something she could never forget. The trauma of her childhood, the loss. of her mother at a young age, and the bitterness towards her father still lingered. Her sheets were drenched in sweat, her face flushed with anxiety. Evan’s face showed concern, knowing she had another nightmare. He asked, already aware of the answer, “Another bad dream?”
Having known her for years, he knew her dreams were never pleasant. The only way to calm her down was to cuddle with her, which always led to a peaceful sleep without nightmares,
“My father will never leave my life, even if I try to forget him. He’s always there in my dreams,” she said, wiping away tears. She turned to Evan, “It’s alright, I know how to manage myself. I’ve been doing it for the past five years.”

They sat in silence for a moment, but Evan’s presence began to calm her nerves. This was p perfect time she needed someone to divert her mind.
Evan quickly grabbed his phone and ordered a drink, intending to get something to refresh the girl. Soon, the maid arrived with fresh juices and snacks for Ella. “This is too much,” Ella said, nodding her head in disapproval, her eyes fixed on Evan. “Drink up, you look like you need it,” Evan said, lightly touching her sweaty cheek. Ella instantly jerked away, Don’t touch me. Don’t forget the no-touching clause. I’m only checking if you have a fever, not that I’m attracted to you or anything.” Evan rolled his eyes and handed her the juice. “Drink it up.”
“Thank you,” Ella said, her eyes locked on his as she started sipping the juice slowly, feeling a small sense of comfort and refreshment. Again, there was an uncomfortable silence, and Evan sensed that the girl was still feeling uneasy.
“Hey, I was thinking of cooking my famous three-alarm chili meal for you. It’s guaranteed to clear your sinuses,” Evan said with a chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.
Ella looked at him in mock surprise. “I remember the last time you made Mexican food. It almost sent me to the hospital. Please, don’t even try to cook.” She spoke in a sarcastic tone. “What’s the catch? Are you trying to uplift my mood? Have you started caring for me?” She raised an eyebrow.
“There’s no catch, just my exceptional cooking skills,” Evan replied with a grin. “This time, I promise not to burn the kitchen down. And I think our baby deserves to have food cooked by me.”
Ella noted the sincerity in his voice and nodded her head in approval. “Alright.”
“Great! Let’s go to the kitchen. I’ll dismiss the staff for tonight,” Evan said, already heading towards the kitchen.
They both quickly got up from their room, heading towards the lobby area that led to the kitchen. While Ella sat comfortably on the bar stools, Evan began rummaging through the kitchen, pulling out pots and pans. Ella watched him amused as he started chopping onions and garlic with reckless abandon. She looked at him in mock surprise, and Evan frowned in confusion. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” he exclaimed.
“Thanks to your exceptional cooking skills, I think I’ve already seen an apocalypse in my life, I don’t want to see it again,” Ella retorted, eyeing the chili he was pouring into the food.
“Hey, my cooking is not that bad now!” Evan protested, taking it as an offense.
“Not that bad?” Ella mimicked him, raising an eyebrow Last time, you even managed to burn water, Evanl
“But at least I didn’t burn the kitchen that day,” Evan said with a chuckle, adding garlic to the gravy. “It’s been five years, can’t you just forget that? It was embarrassing.”
The sizzling sounds of sautéing onions and garlic filled the air as Evan added a dash of paprika, cumin, and chili powder. The aromas mingled in a savory dance, filling the entire kitchen area. Evan was now moving his knife quickly, cutting the beans, when suddenly one tiny bean flew off, landing on the otherPublished by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

side of the kitchen.
Ella raised an eyebrow, looking at the bean and then at the generous amount of hot sauce Evan had poured. I think that’s too much, Evan. Isn’t that too much?” she asked, her voice laced with amusement. “Come on, it’s not that much!” Evan replied, defending his cooking.
“Oh, trust me, tonight I shall conjure a culinary masterpiece!” Evan declared, his eyes gleaming with excitement. The sizzling sound of sautéing onions and garlic filled the air, intensifying like an alarm. Evan started to take out the cutlery from the other corner when suddenly the entire chili started to pour out of the container like a volcanic landscape. Ella’s eyes widened in horror, and she rushed to turn off the stove. “Evan, what have you done?” she asked, her voice trembling. “It’s all burnt!” she exclaimed.
“I just added a few extra ingredients, Evan said, pointing towards the chili garlic sauce. “A dash of this and a pinch of that.”
Ella cautiously took a spoonful of the dish, and her face contorted in disgust. “Oh my God, that’s so spicy and incredibly awful! Why can’t you just accept the fact that you can never cook? After so many years, you still haven’t learned how to cook a simple gravy.”
“Maybe it just doesn’t suit your taste, Evan said, trying to defend his cooking. I’m sure it must be extremely wonderful.” He took a spoonful of the dish, and his nostrils flared up, his eyes watering from the chili’s aroma.
Evan joked, “Ah, alert! Gagged!” as the kitchen quickly filled with smoke. “Who the hell cooled this shit? It’s nasty”
“Oh my God, we need to evacuate the premises! Ella declared, coughing profusely. “Cough cough. My poor baby!”
They both fled the kitchen, Evan turning to her with a sheepish grin. “Well, I guess if you have sinus. issues, they must have cleared up by now.”
Ella couldn’t help but laugh a little. “You’re an idiot, Evan. Nothing has changed about you.” Evan nodded his head in acceptance, acknowledging his cooking skills were more like a war crime. They both sat down in the lobby area, letting the staff members handle the kitchen fumes.
