FALLING FOR A HEARTLESS BETA

CHAPTER 18

The following morning, I woke up around four in the morning. Since it was still early to go out, I decided to do some squats inside the tiny space for an hour.

Then, at five in the morning, I went outside to start doing my work, only to be shocked when I found him lounging outside my small room. I frowned at Dale because he acted differently from his usual grumpy state. Was he trying so hard to befriend me or to be nice to me?

“Good morning, Dale,” I greeted him because what else should I tell him when he was there waiting for me?

“I’m glad you woke up in time, Amber. You better start your work at this hour. Clean the house, then make me something to eat. Something delicious, alright?”

“Dale, I know my duties here, so you don’t have to remind me this early. Have you forgotten that I was working here for a long time before I had the courage to leave?”

“And you met a strange woman who made you so confident, Amber. What happened after you left the mansion? It feels like you have become an entirely different person. You are no longer demure and meek,” he remarked.

“People change, Dale. When I leave the pack, I realized that being weak would just keep me being bullied and used,” I told him.

“And did your situation change? Do you think you are no longer a tool for people like me?”

“Shut up! My situation will never change if you will always be involved with my life,” I complained.

“You have a choice to change the situation in an easy way, Amber. Get married to Jacob’s stepbrother, and become a mistress of a property in the countryside,” he suggested.

“Then, what will happen to me? What’s the difference between being there and being your slave? I couldn’t see any difference, Dale,” I stated a fact.

“But at least in the countryside, you got to have your own house, and I heard that his property is large. It will be a total change for your financial situation,” he explained further.

“By being his whore,” I mumbled.

“Yeah, that’s right, but I think he is a better man than me, Amber.”

“I don’t want a better man, Dale. I just want to be able to live my own life,” I said.

“You have become so stubborn and ungrateful! Don’t you know how much work I put into just for you to have an advantageous marriage? With your status as a lowborn omega, it would be challenging to get a rich husband, Amber.”

“If you expected me to say thank you, then I thank you with all of my heart for being concerned about my wellbeing, Dale. That being said, can I leave now? I still have a lot of things to do,” I told him.

Honestly speaking, I was dumbfounded at his constant hovering over me. He wasn’t like that in the past. Actually, I found it annoying but there could be something he couldn’t explain to tell me.

Still, I questioned myself because the moment our eyes meet, I realized that I was still mesmerized by his charms, or it was better to say that I was still smitten by his attractive face.

Was it true that first love would never die?

Yes, he was drop dead gorgeous but he was so impossible to deal with. I couldn’t risk everything for him anymore. I had enough of his indifference in the past, and I shouldn’t let him walk over me again.

“Come on, Amber. Why are you so hard on yourself? Try to relax, it’s just the two of us here,” he said.

“How can I relax, Dale? I don’t even know what you are planning to do with me,” I admitted the truth.

“Nothing has changed between us, Amber. You are still you, and I am still. You are my slave and I am your master, understand?”

After he said those words, I wondered how long I would be able to survive living under the same roof as Dale! If he was arrogant before, he became worse, and I couldn’t even describe our situation!

Fortunately, Alpha Jacob canceled his visit and instead called Dale to join him in the city for something important.

He was not in the house for a week, so I was able to enjoy my alone time in his mansion. However, during the days when he wasn’t around, I kinda missed him. In fact, I waited for his call, but he didn’t bother to check on me while he was with the man he considered his best friend.

When he finally came home after a week, I expected to see some difference in his treatment toward me. I thought he would become nicer but what happened was the opposite. He became worse.

As a master, Dale was cruel.

When I asked him to visit Herlie at least once in order to inform my friend about what happened to me, he said it wouldn’t matter, and that I should just forget about Herlie. He said the woman wasn’t important!

I was saddened because of it. I really missed Herlie, and I wanted to talk to the woman badly. Unfortunately, HErlie’s number couldn’t be reached anymore, so I was a little worried about her.

Dale would always remind me that as a slave, I should always follow his words. He also reiterated that his words were the rules inside his house. Of course, I agreed to his claim, however, he was supposed to give me a day off.

“Did you just wake up?” Dale asked angrily when he found me in the kitchen and just started cooking his breakfast.

“It’s still early, it’s not even six o’clock,” I explained that I wasn’t that late.  “It’s you who woke up earlier than usual, Dale.”

“Hurry up because I’m hungry,” he ordered. “By the way, I have a guest later so clean the swimming pool thoroughly.”

“All right. I’ll just call you when the food is ready,” I told him but he suddenly glared at me. Did I say something wrong?

“Hurry up, then!”
