Chapter 462 What Did He Find Out?

“I…” She was momentarily speechless, wanting to argue.

I took a slight breath and said, “Ms. Knight, let’s call it a day. We have no grudges, I’ve never thought of

standing in your way, so, let’s each mind our own business.”

Coming out of the Water Villa, the sun had become increasingly intense.

I hadn’t slept all night and my head was really hurting. I took a taxi back to Alexander’s place and just

as I was entering, I ran into Alexander who was about to leave.

Seeing me staring with panda eyes, the corner of his mouth twitched, he frowned, “No, did you go

stealing chickens last night? Why did you end up like this?”

I yawned, said listlessly, “Didn’t sleep all night, I’m going to take a nap first.”

“Hey…you!” He wanted to complain behind me, but I directly closed the bedroom door, completely

blocking out his voice.

Overwhelmed by fatigue, I fell into bed and immediately fell into a deep sleep.

This sleep, truly lasted long. When I woke up, it was already dark outside.

The light was turned on, the bedroom was exited, and Alexander was nowhere to be seen. However,

there was quite a bit of food on the table, both snacks and main dishes. It didn’t take much thought to

know that it was left by Alexander.

He left me a message, saying that he had a social engagement and asked me to get something to eat

by myself.

After turning off my phone and making myself some food, I sat on the balcony of Alexander’s high-rise

apartment, lost in thought. From the window, I could see most of River City. High-rise buildings were

everywhere, their lights twinkling in the distance.

The nights in each city were different, yet not entirely so. They were all brightly lit, all thriving. Living in

such cities, built of concrete and earth, for a long time, one would inevitably feel as if their soul was

gradually being eroded. Despite being well-clothed and well-fed, despite the bright lights, the wine, the

laughter, one could still feel despair and collapse, desires multiplying.

The night grew darker, and after standing for a long time, my legs

open, so I thought about finding a book to read.

In Alexander’s study, most of the books were about economics. After looking around, I finally noticed a

book titled “The Legend of

Kumarajiva” tucked away in a corner. A biography of a high-ranking Buddhist monk?

When did Alexander finish reading this book?

Out of curiosity, I took out the book and walked to the desk, ready to flip through it.

Just sat down, and caught sight of a pile of old newspapers on the table, along with some materials.

What was he doing with newspapers from ten years ago?

Seeing the news about the Mount Snake landslide disaster ten years

ago that buried hundreds of people on the newspaper, my mind buzzed, instinctively thinking of some

things I shouldn’t have thought of.

For a moment, I couldn’t help but flip through those documents, most of which were some materials

from the time when Mount Snake was developed.

I did forget, after returning from Dracview, Alexander had noticed something was off about the events

of that year. I thought he would at most be suspicious for a while, but unexpectedly, he actually started

to investigate.

I didn’t know how much he had actually found out, and with some tension in my heart, I prepared flip

“Click!” The sound of the door opening echoed through the living room. I paused, knowing it was

Alexander returning. After hesitating for a few seconds, I restored everything in the room to its original

state.

Holding the book “The Legend of Kumarajiva”, I left the study, just in time to meet Alexander who had

just come in after changing his shoes.

Seeing me come out of the study, his smiling face stiffened slightly. Very quickly, almost in an instant, if

it wasn’t for the fact that I had seen those documents and therefore observed him more carefully, I

probably wouldn’t have noticed the change in his expression.

“Thought you were still sleeping? What’s up? Looking for a book?” He put down the bag in his hand,

saying, “I brought you some good food, come and have some.”

I nodded, walked over to him with the book in my arms, and saw that there were crayfish and delicately

styled cakes in the bag. I was somewhat tempted, so I put the book aside and squatted next to the

He glanced at the study, sat down on the sofa, took the book I had brought out, flipped through it and

asked, “Is this book from my study? Do I have this book?”

I nodded, my mouth watering uncontrollably as I began to peel a crayfish and stuff it into my mouth.

Mumbling with my mouth full, I said, “Hmm, if it’s not yours, could it possibly be mine?”

He raised an eyebrow, curling his lips as he said, “Seems like it was picked up randomly at the

bookstore.” Catching sight of me eating crawfish, he asked, “How does it taste?”

I hummed in agreement, tilting my head to look at him, “How did you think to bring me crayfish? They

taste quite good. You don’t seem like the type who enjoys crayfish.”
