Chapter 51 The Bracelet
Chapter 51 The Bracelet
"Silly girl, this is a gift from grandma. I'm old and probably dying. This bracelet will look better on a
young girl like you."
The old lady reached out with a smile and did not let her take it off. She would give her the entire
Maynard family wealth if it meant Luz and Logan would stay with Henry.
"Grandma, but this bracelet is too expensive. I can't take this." She knew her place.
"Why not? I gave it to you, no takebacks now, or I'll be angry."
The old lady put on a scowl. Luz had no choice but to give up on the matter. She would give it back to
Henry when he gets home later so that he can return it to grandma after she left with Logan.
Beside them, Maddison's eyes were almost red with envy. Mrs Maynard's bracelet was no regular
bracelet. It was a priceless antique that was rumoured to have been passed down through royalty in
the past. She had hoped that the old lady would pass it down to her, but after years of waiting, she
ended up giving it to Luz!
"Mother, youngsters nowadays prefer diamonds, not jade."
She was the legitimate daughter-in-law of the Maynard Family. How could the old lady give the bracelet
to Luz?
"Who says that young people don't like jade? Luz, tell me, do you think this bracelet is pretty? Do you
like it or not?"
Of course, it was beautiful. How could such an expensive thing be ugly? "Grandma, it's very beautiful. I
like it very much."
Since her grandmother gave her the bracelet, Maddison's eyes had been fixed on it. It was obvious that
she wanted the bracelet, so Luz was equally adamant to not let her have it.
"I knew my granddaughter-in-law was a good girl who knew her stuff. Otherwise, she wouldn't have
married into our family."
Reading between the lines of the old lady's words, she was also praising her grandson indirectly.
The kitchen had already finished preparing their dinner, so the old lady pulled Luz towards the dining
room and sat down at the table. Maddison suddenly put a hand to her stomach. "Oh, my stomach
hurts. Mother, I think I'll skip dinner today."
"Go on then."
After she disappeared upstairs, the old lady snorted. "This woman, does she really think I'm demented
because I'm old? I can see through all of her tricks."
Luz smiled faintly. Maddison had been thinking about the Maynard Family's inheritance since eight
years ago, and it was evident that she hadn't changed at all.
"Don't mind her. Let's eat."
While the three of them were having dinner downstairs, Maddison closed the door to her bedroom and
took out her phone to call someone.
"Hello, Mom." A gentle male voice came through the phone. Maddison's lips immediately curled into a
smile.
"Bryce, you haven't called me in a while. I missed you so much. When are you coming back from
Canada?"
Madison's eyes were filled with anxiety when she asked her son when he was coming back. On one
hand, it was because she really missed her son, on the other hand, she was losing power in the
Maynard family since Henry had most of the influence. If Bryce didn't come back soon, they might lose
the chance forever.
"Mom, I'm fine in Canada. I won't be going back anytime soon."
"No, you must come back this time."
Maddison raised her voice a little before realizing she was too loud. She lowered her voice and
continued, "Bryce, if you don't come back soon, it'll be too late."
Heroways's headquarters was now filled with Henry's men. In another two years, even if Bryce came
back from abroad, he wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
At the thought that her son would not inherit anything, she became anxious, but the person on the
phone was not anxious at all. "Mom, why are you in such a hurry? I am the son of the Maynard Family
anyway."
"You silly boy, Henry just announced that he married Luz Boone seven years ago, and he even let Luz
bring a b*stard into the family. Your grandmother is all wrapped around their thumbs now, and she even
said that she would give everything to that b*stard! Just now, she gave Luz that jade bracelet, it's worth
tens of millions of dollars!"
Maddison's heart was bleeding when she mentioned the bracelet as if it was taken away from her. But
before she could finish her words, she was interrupted by the voice on the phone. "Mom, fine, I'm going
back, okay? Stop nagging."
"Really? You're coming back?" In the past two years, she had called him many times to ask him to
come back, but he had always told her to wait. This time, he agreed, but she felt that it was too sudden.
"Yeah, it's about time I went back."
There was a sudden burst of laughter at the other end of the phone. It was still gentle, but it sounded a
little strange.
"That's great. I'll be waiting for you at home. That delirious old lady wants to leave everything to Henry
Maynard and that b*stard son of his. She can dream on."
"Mom, just wait for me at home."
On the other end of the phone, Bryce hung up the phone with a smile. Beside him, a beautiful foreign
girl looked at him with a blank expression. She couldn't understand what he was talking about on the
phone.
"Betty, I'm going home. Let's break up."
He spread out his hands and looked at her apologetically as he broke up with her in her native
language so she could understand.
The girl was obviously shocked, but before she could ask why, her ex-boyfriend turned around and
walked away in large strides, not even looking back.
His perfect facial features were less sharp and cold than Henry's, thanks in part to the gold-rimmed
spectacles that were perched on his nose. It softened his aura significantly, making him look like a well-
mannered young man with a good upbringing. "North City, it's about time I went back."
Luz's life for the next few days was very uncomfortable. To be exact, it was uncomfortable for her eyes,
because she was subjected to some very suggestive scenes.
The general manager's office had become a place for sexual tension. Her eyes and ears were suffering
and she had to just bear with the gossiping of her colleagues. She was stressed out to the point of
depression.
"Hey, where are you?"
"I'm preparing to go to court to earn money." Mia's voice came out of the phone. Evidently, she still had
a passion for her job. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
"When will you be finished? How about we head out for some relaxation tonight?" If she didn't take a
night out soon, she might just die of depression.
"No problem. How about celebrating our victory at the Golden Karoke later tonight?"
"Anywhere is fine with me." Luz smiled. Only Mia would be confident enough to plan for a victory
celebration before even going to court.
"I'll pick you up when you get off work."
She hung up the phone and waited patiently for the end of the day when she could finally get off work.
She ran out of the office as soon as she could.
In the office next door, Henry watched her leave in a hurry and got into a red Mercedes. Then he
frowned and said, "Linda."
Linda walked in as soon as she heard him call her. "Mr Maynard, what can I do for you?"
"Go and find out if the owner of the red Mercedes-Benz is Mia James."
