Chapter 47: Deceptive Seduction
Chapter 47: Deceptive Seduction
Mia just watched silently as she fumbled for words. The way she said she wasted her youth was
ridiculous to her. She knew as well as the other woman did that they were both just playing with each
other and that she had already calculated how much she would get before she decided to break up.
There was no need to put their relationship on a pedestal.
However, this was from her personal point of view. From a lawyer's point of view, whoever pays was
the boss, so none of this mattered.
"Ms Moss, let's go in. We shouldn't let the defence wait too long."
The two of them walked into the court one after the other. Lucas Philip was already sitting in the
defendant's seat with his legs crossed, an impatient look on his handsome face. The same expression
on a less attractive person would have been irritating, but for someone with his looks, it was
deceptively seductive.
Mia pursed her lips. It was no wonder that the woman would spend a few years playing a romantic
game with him. He had money and looks, so it really wasn't a bad deal at all. It still didn't change the
fact that he was a playboy, though.
"Now that we're all here, let's commence. I don't have much time."
Lucas tapped the Rolex watch on his wrist. He wouldn't even attend this court meeting if he didn't
intend to send out a warning for the other women waiting to throw themselves at him.
Mia stared at his fingers for a while, which were whiter and longer than any other men's hands she had
ever seen. It was a sure sign of a playboy.
"Hello, Honourable Judge and jury in attendance. My name is Mia James, and I will be representing my
client, Ms Sofia Moss. Ms Moss has been in a relationship with the defendant, Mr Philips, for three
years and four months, during which she has fulfilled all responsibilities as a girlfriend. In the duration
of the relationship, Mr Philips has given a villa worth 8 million dollars, an BMW X7 automobile, and
various jewellery and accessories that total up to 1 million dollars."
She continued, "These items were given to my client voluntarily while their relationship was still valid,
so my client has sole proprietorship of them. Now that the relationship has ended, the defendant is
asking for the items back, which is in violation of the relevant laws. Therefore, I ask the Honorable
Judge to deliver a verdict that is both just and understanding to protect the rights of my client."
Mia pushed the black-framed glasses on her nose. She had seen many rich men who played with
women, but she had never seen a man as selfish as Lucas Philips who wanted to take back the gifts he
gave to his ex-girlfriend.
"Your Honour, I know the law. The plaintiff says that I gave the stuff to Ms Moss voluntarily. A claim like
that should require proof."
It was not Lucas's lawyer who spoke, but himself. There was a mocking smile on his face as if he had
already foreseen that Mia would lose the case.
Mia was an experienced lawyer, so she had already expected them to get hung up on the
proprietorship of the house and the car. She smiled slightly and took out the recording device she had
prepared beforehand.
"This is a conversation recorded by my client. The defendant clearly agrees verbally that he is giving
the items to my client of his own volition."
After that, she pressed the play button. Sure enough, Lucas's voice came out, accompanied by
ambiguous sounds that any adult in the room recognized.
Even though Lucas has the reputation of being shameless in his social circle, he couldn't help but
blush. Lawyers nowadays would really do anything to win their cases, short of playing straight porn.
He glared at his lawyer and turned his head away. He didn't mind giving away the house or even twice
that amount of money, but he didn't like Sofia Moss who was full of calculating how much she could
get.
After all, she had been with him for three years. It wouldn't have mattered if he had given her these
things. But now things had gone so far, he definitely couldn't give her the house and car. Otherwise, all
the women around him would think that he was just a brainless fool.
"Your Honour, under the law of acquisition, the gifter can only gift items under his or her sole
proprietorship. If the item is not under the gifter's sole proprietorship, the relevant parties may withdraw
the gifts when their rights are infringed upon. The house and the car involved in this case belong to my
client's company, whose proprietorship are divided amongst the shareholders. In this case, the relevant
parties have the right to withdraw these gifts."
Lucas's lawyer immediately showed his expertise in his retort. Mia frowned. This case was actually not
very complicated. As a lawyer, she knew that the evidence she had would not stand for scrutinization
under the law, so she was really depending on the man being courteous.
Unexpectedly, she met a stingy playboy.
This wasn't easy to deal with.
The judge at the trial table looked at Mia and asked, "Plaintiff, any additional comments?" Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
"Of course, Your Honour, I want to ask Mr Phillips a few questions."
The judge nodded, and Mia shifted her gaze onto Lucas. "Mr Philips, there is a natural divide in a
relationship between a man and woman. Ms Moss has given three years of her life to you, which I'm
sure you can agree with. Since you can be together happily, why end this on such a sour note?"
After Mia finished speaking, the crowd of onlookers began to lower their heads and discuss.
"The lawyer is right. Lucas is, after all, a well-known figure in North City. The Phillips family is rich and
powerful, why are they so stingy with their money?"
"That's right. He had slept with her for three years."
Lucas heard all these discussions and couldn't help but frown. Now that she realized that she wouldn't
win this on law alone, she was taking the gaslighting route.
"Pretty lawyer lady, are you saying that you're weak, or are you trying to insinuate that my money
grows on trees? Do you think I can just throw money around?"
Even if he could, he would not throw it on such a woman.
Mia was a little annoyed. Weak? Her? She was the number one divorce lawyer in North City. "Mr.
Phillips, not only your money is hard-earned, but exercising is probably also pretty hard for you."
"Plaintiff, watch your attitude."
The judge interrupted as soon as he realized that an argument was breaking out.
Lucas glared at her. Looks like this female lawyer was looking for trouble.
The judge called for a 15-minute break, after which the final verdict was out. As expected, Sofia lost the
case.
"What kind of lawyer are you? I paid you to win this for me, not to lose!"
Sofia's expression changed immediately after she realized that she had lost both the house and the
luxury car. She spent three years getting into the good graces of Mr Phillips, but in the end, all she was
left with was some jewellery and accessories.
