Chapter 97
Chapter 97
A moment later, she texted Apollo, ‘Hey, if I do find your father, what will you do?’ She added, ‘He’s a calm, collected, disciplined, responsible, and powerful man. Comes from a simple family, and they get along well.’
‘Sounds nice,’ Apollo texted back. It was obvious that he wasn’t averse to this and was fine with it.
I knew it. He wants a father.
While Alice was staring at the text, Keith suddenly asked, “So what do you think?”
“Not bad,” she blurted out the response Apollo gave her. She was just answering on the boy’s behalf. If Keith was his father, then it would be a good arrangement.
Ethan heard that through the phone, and he laughed mirthlessly. Not bad? What does she mean by that? Is she talking about Keith? His family? She’s married, for God’s sake. She’s my wife. I can’t believe she’d say that to someone proposing to her. Is she really trying to marry him? I’m still here, you know. Damn it.
Chris sneered. “She might be stupid, but at least she’s smart here. She knows she won’t be married to you for long, so she’s already finding an exit strategy. She knows you’ll divorce her eventually, so she’s not refusing. No, that’s acceptance. I bet she’s going to marry him right after you guys get divorced.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes, fury flaring within them. She wants to marry him? After the divorce? How dare she?
Keith broke into a smile after that answer. “So, you’re saying…” For the first time, he was being roundabout.
Marriage was not Alice’s topmost agenda; the case about Apollo was. The marriage could only be talked about if Keith was Apollo’s father, and she must find out if he was the man.
All she needed was a strand of hair or two. Still, she had to talk about the marriage now. She couldn’t accept his proposal. She couldn’t marry him just because of that event seven years ago, and moreover, she was in no state to marry anyone.
She just got married to Ethan. Even though they would be divorced in six months, she still couldn’t marry Keith. Since she couldn’t marry him, she had to make things clear, and so, she opened her mouth to explain herself. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
However, Keith’s face fell all of a sudden and he put a finger to his lips. He had his back turned to the camera, so Chris couldn’t see anything.
What’s wrong? Alice froze, but she realized something was amiss right away. She didn’t say anything but took out her phone and texted, ‘What’s wrong?’
‘We’re being monitored,’ texted Keith, and he looked at the camera darkly. Then he texted, ‘Someone’s listening in.’
He knew this place had surveillance cameras, but they were mostly unused. They didn’t want to intrude on their clients’ privacy, after all. The surveillance cameras would only be used for emergency cases, so Keith didn’t expect anyone to listen in. but due to his work, he was an alert guy, and his senses were sharp. Just a moment earlier, he noticed that someone was eavesdropping.
‘Who is it?’ Alice’s face fell as well. She didn’t think someone would eavesdrop on them, and they were just having lunch. Whom are they going for? Me, or him?
‘Not sure. Let’s eat for now. We’ll talk later,’ Keith quickly texted and placed his phone on the table. Alice was close enough to see the text. Keith was a careful man thanks to his work. Since he knew someone was listening in, he wouldn’t speak anymore.
Alice nodded, and Keith summoned the waiter, telling them to serve the food. Then the two of them spent all their time eating. Even if they were to chat, they would only make small talk.
“I think they know we’re listening in, Ethan.” Chris wasn’t stupid. He knew something was up a while later. The fact they suddenly stopped talking about the marriage was proof.
“Turn the surveillance cameras off,” Ethan said. He knew a bit about Keith’s job, and it wasn’t a surprise that Keith found out that someone was eavesdropping on them. Ethan then hung up and instructed the driver “Take me to Chris’ club.”
Caleb had been following Ethan all this time. He didn’t hear what was going on during the call, but one look at Ethan’s face and he knew it was about Alice.
Keith was a fast eater, but he slowed down for Alice.
Ever since Alice knew someone was eavesdropping, she felt a little miffed. She had no idea who the eavesdropper was or what their goals were. They couldn’t do anything about it, so Alice ate faster, and they were done in twenty minutes.
They exchanged a look and understood what had to be done, and they went outside together. Just when they were about to leave the room, Alice looked at the camera. It shouldn’t be able to film them, so if she whispered, they shouldn’t be heard either. “Can I take something from you?” It was imperative to find out if Keith was Apollo’s father, and the fastest way was through a DNA test, so she needed a few strands of Keith’s hair. They were in the surveillance cameras’ blind spot, but she still spoke softly just in case they were heard.
“What do you need?” Keith stopped and stared at her. He too was whispering.
This is about Apollo. I have to take this seriously. I cannot let anyone overhear anything.
