Chapter 36
Maybelline Walter POV
I gave it a second thought as I stood in front of the mansion where the man had asked me to meet him.
Am I making the right decision? I asked myself for the nth time as I held my phone firmly in my hand, my heart pounding hard against my chest. Even though I knew it would be dangerous to meet a stranger alone, my curiosity wouldn’t stop pushing me, especially at the thought of it being related to the mysterious death of my Mom years ago.
I was just eleven years old when my Mom who was single at that time, passed away, and I had since spent years of my life in an orphanage until I turned the legal adult age of eighteen years old, and had to move out of the orphanage to fend for myself.
That night, I had come back from school only to meet my Mom in the pool of her own blood, and at the time I could get my neighbors to help me take her to the hospital, she already passed away.
The memories of that day haunted me for years before I was finally able to get rid of it not quite long ago. Dad? Well, I never had one. I was raised by my Mom singlehandedly, and she never mentioned my Dad to me. Not that I ever asked her, anyway. While growing up, I assumed that my Dad must’ve died while Mom was pregnant with me, but what was weird was the fact that I never got to see any of his pictures.
The sound of my ringing phone disrupted my thoughts, and my heart missed a beat when I checked my phone and found out that it was the same man who had called me earlier today to meet him here. After much hesitation, I swiped the answer button and held the phone to my ear.
“Are you here?” His voice sounded from the other end, but I could only hum and nod my head, my voice suddenly betraying me.
I had expected him to say something, but the call disconnected immediately. Three minutes later, a man in his late thirties came walking out of the mansion. The way he was dressed gave away all the information that he must be a bodyguard or an assistant, I wasn’t sure.
“H… hi…” My voice quivered, and my heart pounded hard against my chest.
“Good day, Ms. Please come with me,” He turned to leave, but I called his attention.
“We are going inside?” I blinked my eyes as they widened, and he turned to face me.
“Rest assured, Ms. I’m not going to hurt you. You are here for a few discussions with my boss,” He assured me, but even with the sincerity in his eyes, I wasn’t still so foolish to believe him. For fuck’s sake! He is a stranger and aside from that, those bad people didn’t have it written on their foreheads that they were bad, yeah? How could I bring myself to trust him?
“Uhm… Wait a minute, please,” I excused myself and checked my phone for my location. I shared it with Lily so she could track me if anything should go wrong later.
“You already gave me your word… Do you know Miles Greyson?” He stared at me blankly for a few seconds before he nodded.
“Good. You know he is powerful, right?” He stared for another seconds before he nodded.
“Good. He is my husband, and he will deal with you if you dare harm me. My husband won’t spare you if you dare lay a finger on me,” For the first time, I acknowledged Miles as my husband before I thought of what I just spilled. Well, it wasn’t the time for me to be careful with my words. I needed to make sure of my safety first.
“I won’t harm you,” He assured me before he finally led me into the mansion. I wasn’t so lost in admiring the place because it was almost the same as Miles’s house, although Miles’s is bigger and prettier.
We got to the entrance door, and he pressed the passcode of the door and opened it. I followed him inside.
Our footsteps echoed along the walkway as he led me to God knows where. Well, I soon found out that we were going to the living room when we arrived.
“Please sit,” He gestured toward one of the couches, and I hesitated before I sat on it.
“What would you like to have, Ms? I will ask the maid to get it for…”
“Let’s just cut to the chase. I’m not here to eat,” I didn’t mean to be rude, but my voice came out that way and I couldn’t help it.
“Not even a drink?” He asked persistently.
“No, thanks,” I tried to be polite this time. No way I would drink from a stranger, right? What if he drugged me and did something bad to me? Maybe raping me or even killing me? I cringed and touched my stomach at the thought of that. I couldn’t subject my baby’s life and mine to such danger.
“Alright. My boss will be with you shortly,” I breathed out when he said that.
Just as I had suspected, it seemed he was a bodyguard because he was standing like one while guarding the living room.
The sound of the footsteps descending the staircase minutes later caught my attention, and I looked in the direction to find the wrist of a man. The wristwatch he had on his wrist was evidence that he was wealthy because I knew how much it cost. Miles had a similar one which I found out cost a whooping sum of fifteen million dollars. Only a super-wealthy person would use that much money to buy just a wristwatch.
I rose to my feet when I finally saw his familiar oval-shaped face.
“What! Mr. Williams Taylor?” My voice came out in a whisper and my eyes narrowed in shock. What the fuck was I really doing here? Why was it him? Why did he want to see me? My mouth was left hanging open when he finally stopped in front of me.
“I finally found you after so many years, Maybelline,” My jaw dropped to the ground, and my face went blank with confusion as I stared at him since he was standing in front of me now. Just what the fuck is going on here? This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
