Chapter 1-1
Chapter 1-1
Meryl Kloss
"Princess, don't do it.You will hurt yourself"
My best friend/cousin as well as my assigned boy guard for a week, Karl Lark yelled.
"Don't yell at me, I don't like it."
I pouted and watched as his face morphed in horror when he realized what he just did.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to but please come down, you'll get hurt."
He said slowly before making his way towards me, slowly.
I was standing on our dinner table and dancing as my favourite song turned up on the TV.
I raised the volume as much as my ears could bear.
Werewolf ability to hear better and all.
The song ended too soon for my liking and another song started playing.
I continued dancing because that's what I can do to waste my time- eat, read, watch TV, eat and repeat.
I had to keep myself entertained somehow or else I feel like I would soon lose my sanity being stuck up in my house.
Karl was busy on his phone when I climbed on the table.
If he had seen me when I was climbing the table, he wouldn't have even let me near the table.
"But I don't want to"
I stomped my foot on the table looking down at the black haired, blue eyes, 6'1 feet tall boy who was looking up at me, his eyes pleading.
"You have to though or do you want me call Uncle Gerard now"
He threatened me, pulling his phone out just to prove how serious he was.
Uncle Gerard as in my dad was the younger brother of Karl's father. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"NO, I'll come down"
I said quickly when I realized how serious he was.
Not that my dad would scold me for climbing on the table or anything, scolding was the last thing he'd do but he was super protective of me and my safety which can be overbearing and overwhelming at times.
He wouldn't scold me but would definitely be extra cautious which was the last thing i wanted from him.
"I'm waiting"
Giving a longing look to the table I was on, I stretched my arms out towards Karl indicating him to carry me down.
He rolled his eyes at my childish behavior but still held me bridal style, one hand under my knees the other over my back, in one swift motion.
"Sometimes, I wonder whether you really are a seventeen years old girl"
He muttered to which I nodded my head and gave him wide grin.
"I'm seventeen and I'm gonna be an adult in a couple of months."
I excitedly said pointing at myself.
He left out a snort when he heard the word adult but when he saw my narrowed my eyes, he gave me a sheepish smile.
Karl was the only friend i had growing up, along with his best friend, the Aptha's son, who wasn't away from the pack for almost three years.
Karl was like a brother to me who also played the role of my best friend.
"You wanna eat something?"
He asked carrying me towards the kitchen.
My previous anger dissipated when i heard his offer and bobbed my head up and down excitedly.
"Yes food"
"You are always hungry"
He mused as he settled me down the stool that's placed along the kitchen island.
I shrugged and started playing with the stool as it had rollers at the end.
"I want to eat cheese cake with strawberry topping and also a chocolate shake"
I tapped my chin as I listed off what I wanted to eat, nodding my head absent-mindedly.
"You do know that you are talking to me and not some chef, right?"
Karl had an incredulous look on his face, I nodded my head at his question and scrunched my nose in confusion.
"Um..Yeah, I know- "I can't cook."
He stated drily.
"So you have to eat whatever is in there which is..."
He opened the fridge and started rummaging through it.
"Cookies"
He held the plate of cookies that Aunt Maria, Karl's mom had baked for me in the morning.
With a defeated sigh, I accepted what he had to offer without any complaints and ate the cookies.
Later in the day, Aunt Maria came over with homemade dinner and rushed back home saying Matthew, her husband was waiting for her.
"I'm sleepy"
I mumbled rubbing my eyes tiredly as my eyelids started to droop on it’s own.
We were in our ty room, watching the notebook for the nth time after dinner.
"Let's get you to bed then"
He whispered, scooping me up in his arms and carried me to my bedroom.
He safely tucked me in, kissed my hair lovingly and whispered softly.
"Good night, sweet dreams princess"
"Good night, Karl"
I mumbled sleepily turning away from him.
I heard his retreating footsteps and the sound of the door opening and closing as he walked out of my room and entered the room next to mine where he was staying until my parents come back.
Staying at Karl's place would have been more convenient and they don't have to walk to and fro from my place to theirs but the problem was I couldn't sleep if it was not my house, my room, my bed and my Mr.
Fluffy, a giant teddy bear.
It was my tenth birthday gift from my parents so it has been with me for seven years and no matter how old or torn out it gets, i couldn't throw it away.
It was of a great sentimental value to me.
My father said, it would protect me and cast away any bad dreams.
Ten years old me believed him and hold onto his words, but now, i wasn't so sure.
Nightmares plagued most of my nights and I could barely have peaceful sleep but somehow with the bear with me, I don't feel so alone.
I tried to overcome this condition of mine by staying at my friend’s house when I was fifteen but i failed miserably as I couldn't even close my eyes for a minute, I just couldn't and so since then I never had sleepovers at my friends house except when it was my place and so I didn't have any friends except Karl but he was my cousin brother and that doesn't count.
Not being able to sleep anywhere else but my own house was a condition I couldn't overcome since I was a kid and the incidents that happened when I was fourteen made it worst.
I don't even remember any sleepovers i had with my friends because i never had one and kids are cruel, they cast you away if you can't blend in with them and so i never really had any ‘friends’.
That's why I was so grateful to Karl and his friendship.
He was more like a brother to me than a cousin.
Soon, sleep came and I drifted away into oblivion.

"When are my parents coming?"
I asked Karl, who stopped shoving the pancakes in his mouth and snapped his head at me but it was Aunt Maria replied.
"They'll be here tomorrow"
She wiped her hands on her apron smiling brightly.
"I miss them"
I sighed sadly.
It has been eight days already since they went out of pack along with the Alpha and Luna for some annual council meeting.
They said it would take only one week at the most but apparently, not.

"Let's watch the notebook."
I clapped excitedly as I took the Cd out of my collections.
Karl made a disgusted face as he took multiply steps back.
"We watch that yesterday and also the day before that and the day before that"
He exclaimed unhappily.
"So?"
I shrugged nonchalantly as I held the CD next to my face pointing at it.
"This is Notebook, how can you not love notebook"
"I would have loved if I didn't watch it everyday"
"You don't even watch the full movie"
I grumbled with my arms crossed.
"What?"
He deadpanned.
"You always fall asleep halfway through the movie"
I accused, knowing all too well.
"That's because I've already watched it"
He retorted smartly making me huff.
"Okay fine"
I grumbled, uncrossing my arms from over my chest.
"Then we will watch The vow or the lost valentine"
I suggested pointing at the cds smiling brightly.
"NOOO"
Karl yelled as soon as I mentioned the movies.
He shook his head furiously his face masking in horror.
"But these are the best movies ever"I cried dramatically flailing my arms around.
"And also you have no-"
I stopped abruptly when Aunt Maria burst through the front door and rushed towards us.
"Karl"
She panted, she was breathing heavily as if she had ran all the way here.
She was trying to say something but no words came out.
Karl was beside her in a flash with worried written all over his face.
I ran towards the kitchen and poured a glass of water for her.
"Relax mother"
I heard Karl say to his mother when I entered the room.
"Here, Aunt Maria"
I handed her the glass of water.
She accepted the glass from my hand, gulping down the water in one breath.
She must be thirsty.
"Do you want more?"
I asked softly as I rubbed her shoulder, she shook her head no.
"Come, let's sit down."
Karl pulled her mother towards the couch but she shook her head furiously, a panicked look on her face.
"No, we have no time for that now it's already noon and he'll be here tomorrow morning"
She said once she calmed down and caught her breath.
"Who?"Karl and I asked in unison confused about the identity of the he she mentioned.
"The Alpha King"She whispered, her tone cautious as if he will hear her.
"What?"Karl and I spoke in unison.
Aunt Maria nodded her head furiously.
