Chapter 34
Chapter 34
The entire car was silent all the time until they reached at a high-end club. The surrounding was filled with luxurious furniture. Although the place was a little more subdued as compared to the other clubs, she could tell that it was for the upper class given the number of sports cars parked around the area.
Alyssa paused, gazing at the well-dressed people going in and out of the club. This was certainly not the place she was used to. She looked at “Justin” suspiciously, “Are we going to eat here?”
He wouldn’t be here to play, would he?
Emmett didn't even answer her as he got out of the car, closing the door right behind him. This time, he didn't open the passenger seat, as if he was daring her not to follow him inside.
Alyssa had no choice but to follow right behind him.
The two of them walked straight to the entrance. When Emmett stepped into the entrance, the waiter bowed respectfully. "Welcome to Golden Fountain Clubhouse.”
However, when Alyssa was about to enter, the waiter quickly stopped her in her tracks.
The attendant raised his chin and looked at Alyssa, his eyes flashing with disdain, “What are you doing here?”
Alyssa lowered her head and looked at her clothes. They were a bit shabby, definitely not high-end clubhouse worthy. But she still said calmly, “I am here for lunch.”
She was about to enter after finished speaking, but the attendant stopped her again. “Haven't you
heard me? This is Golden Fountain Clubhouse. Not everyone can enter, especially not when someone looks like you."
He had seen too many gold-diggers coming here to look for a sugar daddy, so he wasn't surprised that she'd try to come in. Most of those women were at least beautiful. But this was the first time he had ever seen someone so ugly! Letting someone like her inside would damage the exclusivity of the club.
Alyssa pouted her mouth. She didn’t want to go in, either.
Emmett had already gone in when he realized that Alyssa didn't follow him. Just as he was about to turn around to look for her, he heard the waiter's harsh words. Immediately, his face became cold.
He walked over and stretched out his long arm to pull Alyssa behind him. He looked at the attendant indifferently, “What’s your name?”
Most of the people who came to this clubhouse were either rich or powerful. So, attendants here had a good eye on the guests.
Although he didn't know Emmett, looking at the tall and dominant figure, he knew for a fact that the man was both rich and powerful. The attendant immediately became cowardly and stammered. “Mateo…”
Hearing this, Emmett only gave him a cold glance and pulled Alyssa inside. Nobody dared to stop them now.
Emmett was tall and walked fast. But Alyssa was much shorter than him, so she was always half-step behind him. However, this time, he made sure to pace his footsteps just to make sure that they weren't
that far apart.
Although he was an unscrupulous playboy, his palms were so warm, which made Alyssa relaxed. Alyssa raised her head and looked at his broad shoulders in a daze.
Other than Hazel, this was the first time someone had protected her like this.
The sound of the elevator door opening pulled her thoughts back.
She glanced up and saw that Emmett had stopped and was staring at her with a meaningful look on his face. Had he been waiting for her this entire time?
"Are you just going to stand there holding my hand?" He asked impatiently.
Alyssa quickly pulled back the hand he was holding as if she was electrocuted. She panicked and entered the elevator.
Alyssa quickly pulled back the hand he was holding as if she was electrocuted. She panicked and entered the elevator.
She had been holding hands with “Justin” all the way!
'Get yourself together, Alyssa!'
As soon as Emmett had stepped inside the elevator, Alyssa took it upon herself to stand in the farthest corner from him. Her hands folded behind her, and she bowed her head. It was as if she was facing
Medusa with the way she was hiding from his impenetrable stare.
Emmett glanced at her indifferently and said in a deep voice, “Why are you standing so far away? Do you think I'll eat you or something?"
Alyssa turned her head away, not wanted to respond him.
When they reached the private room, Alyssa thought that she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. But she wasn't expecting to see a man sitting in the center of the room.
The man was dressed in a striped suit, and wore a pair of gold-framed glasses. His features were sharp and angular, but there was certain gentleness in his movements. His outstanding temperament was the proof that he was either rich or powerful.
Everyone in the entertainment industry would recognize this man. He was Xavier Hall, the CEO of the Nine Clouds Media Company!
Alyssa froze. What was he doing here?
Xavier seemed to have sensed her gaze. He quickly turned his head towards her with a gentle smile.
Emmett walked towards his table and pulled out a chair, pressing Alyssa right next to him. He looked at Xavier and said, “My Cousin-in-law.”
Cousin-in-law? Didn't he say he was bringing his wife?
Xavier seemed to be shocked for a moment, as if he had heard something interesting. He stared at the
young woman and the smile in his eyes deepened. “Mrs. Lawrence, it's nice to finally meet you. I've heard quite a lot about you."
The atmosphere around them felt a little strange, but she still politely greeted. "Mr. Hall.”
This ugly woman knew Xavier?
Emmett looked up and threw the menu in front of Alyssa. He said coldly. “Why don’t you order?”
Although it was as if he was giving her respect, it sounded more like an order than a suggestion.
Alyssa didn't know how she had offended him, but she didn't say a word. After all, there was an outsider with him. If she spoke up, not only would that bring attention to them, but it could also humiliate both of them.
So she lowered her head and looked at the menu carefully.
At this time, Emmett’s phone vibrated.
He took out his phone to see that Xavier had sent him a message. "Still role-playing with your wife? I didn't think you were that kind of man, Emmett."
At the end of the sentence, there were a few laughing emojis.
He was already unhappy that Alyssa knew Xavier, and after reading the text message, his annoyance became even more heightened. He raised his leg and kicked on Xavier’s leg.
“Mm.” Xavier didn't expect him to be so ruthless. He groaned in pain. The man truly had no mercy!
But because Alyssa was here, he could only endure it.
Feeling the table shake, Alyssa looked up at Emmett blankly.
“Have you ordered?” Emmett leaned over and placed his arm around the back of her chair. From an outsider's perspective, they looked like an intimate couple.
“Yeah.” Alyssa felt uncomfortable because of his gesture. Without another word, she placed her menu far away.
Fortunately, “Justin” didn't do anything inappropriate during their lunch. Instead, he kept chatting with Xavier. They were talking about the entertainment business as well as their numerous clients. Not thinking that it was right for her to listen in, she stayed silent and continued to eat her meal.
It wasn't hard to see that the two men were good friends.
Alyssa had been eating the whole time. After she was finished, she found a reason to excuse herself.
As soon as she left, Xavier let out a long sigh of relief. He took off his glasses and changed his gentle image and freaked out. "You didn't tell me you were this good at acting. Maybe you should resign from your role as CEO and become an actor instead. You are having fun and I am so busy alone in the company. I have to wear glasses every day to look mature and reliable. I don’t care! I want to take a vacation!”
“Vacation?” Emmett said indifferently, “What kind of leave does the president of the Nine Clouds Media
Company need? Even a bumpkin like Alyssa knows you, shouldn’t you work harder?”
"I have millions of fans on Weibo. She obviously knows me. Besides, you're the boss here, not me! I'm just working for you."
Xavier said angrily, “If you don’t return to work, I’ll jump off the rooftop of the company and get you big news.”
Xavier said this kind of threat three times a day. Emmett simply didn’t care.
He slowly drank some water before asking. “Did the Human Resources Department really not receive Alyssa's resume?"
Xavier leaned back against his seat, shaking his head. “I had my secretary to ask them every day. They really didn’t receive her resume.” RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
After saying that, he asked Emmett with a curious expression, “Your wife looks like that, how you can kiss her?”
"She looks like what?" Emmett looked up at him coldly.
Xavier swallowed his saliva and said flatteringly, “Pure, beautiful and generous… She's truly an angel."
Instead of agreeing with him, Emmett scoffed in reply. "Are you blind?"
Xavier was speechless. What did this man what him to say?
He could not say Alyssa was ugly, nor could he say she was beautiful. Should he have just nodded along to his words?
He felt that ever since Emmett got married, he had become strange.
Before leaving, Emmett had a sudden thought. He immediately turned around and instructed Xavier. "There's a waiter in the club named Mateo. Just fire him."
…
When they returned to the villa, it was already the afternoon.
Alyssa and Emmett entered one after the other.
When she entered, she asked the bodyguard. "Is your Young Master home?"
“No.” After a period of training, the bodyguards no longer felt the pressure, to lie.
"All right." She had already gotten used to his absence. Not bothering to say anything to the man behind her, she quickly raced into her bedroom.
Laying on the bed, Alyssa was thinking about what she should tell Emmett when he came back and asked about the interview.
However, as she stared up the ceiling, she suddenly thought of “Justin.”
For someone who had threatened her and teased her to no end these past few days, he surprisingly
treated her well today.
His behavior was very abnormal today.
