Chapter fourteen- Lovesick puppy
Marcus’s POV
I poured water on my face repeatedly, as I stared at my reflection in my bathroom mirror, I signed audibly. My handsome face was not all that handsome anymore. I was beginning to have circles under my eyes from all the stress I was under, stress from work, sleepless nights from thinking about Myra all those lonely nights. I stared at my reflection for a while and shook my head and left the bathroom, wearing a robe.
I was supposed to feel joy in my heart but an overwhelming feeling of dread overshadowed me. I was excited to finally find Myra, but I couldn’t say the same about Myra knowing she rejected me back in school and she’s married now, not just a wife but also a mother.
“Is there a possibility that something will work out between us”
“Will she ever accept me”
” Maybe history is going to repeat itself” But it doesn’t change a thing as I am willing to bask in the euphoria of my imagination and bear this unrequited love for the rest of my life.
“Reminiscing back to a few years ago, she was the most beautiful and intelligent in school and was always cheerful and happy though it was obvious she was impoverished but it didn’t dim her confidence. I fell in love with her on the first day we accidentally bumped into each other in the library, even though I finally had the confidence to ask her out on a date in front of the whole school but she rejected me without thinking twice. Though it’s been a while still I found it difficult to love another.
Many times I wanted to brush her thoughts aside and move on but I couldn’t, I was in love with her, she is my first love and I cared for her. I couldn’t just ignore her, it wasn’t that easy. I wondered if she still smiled like before because she has one of the most beautiful smiles in the world.
Reconnecting with an old school friend and getting Myra’s number have been one of my happiest days. I remember calling her phone but didn’t find the courage to introduce myself.
I quickly asked if she was Damian’s wife and she responded her voice hasn’t altered, still soothing and melodious and I can’t seem to shake it out of my head. It’s more like a scene that keeps replaying in my head. I ruffled my hair with my fingers and grabbed a towel and wiped my face, then a thought crossed my mind and a small smirk played out on my lips.
Twenty-eight years old Marcus Lawson was the vice president of his family’s multi-billionaire company. Lawson corporation was a multi-billionaire dollar company that dabbled in everything from canning food products to fancy restaurants and small cafes and others. Lawson corporation was rated among the influential businesses while Marcus was listed among the top 30 CEOS on Forbes. I’m the perfect combination of good looks and wealth. Though at twenty-eight I am still fucking single and have never seemed to find any woman attractive enough to call MINE except for Myra the love of my life and she’s legally taken. The buzzing of my phone snapped me back to reality and I checked the caller it was mum, knowing why she was calling I sighed and rubbed my forehead in frustration before answering the phone
“Hello Son don’t tell me you’re beginning to get bored of my calls”
“Mum, I’m not just that I have told you countless times that I don’t need you to set me up on a blind date. I’m perfectly capable of finding a woman that I want to settle down with on my own.”
“I know that honey, but I’m tired of seeing you alone. Plus I would like to have grandchildren before I die” She said dramatically, causing me to roll my eyes.
” I know mum, but I simply don’t have the time. I sighed. How do I tell her that the only woman I loved and is worthy of being her daughter-in-law is already in the hands of another? And I can’t seem to shake her out of my mind no matter how much I try”
“Please, Marcus? Just one more date and I promise I will butt out of your love life” She begged
“You’re not supposed to be involved in my love life in the first place,” I grumbled, before groaning.
“Fine. What’s her name, age, and where is she from? I asked
My mum squealed in my ear in excitement, I couldn’t suppress the tiny smile that made its way onto my face.
I love her dearly, and I would do anything to see her happy
” Her name is Sheila Harrington, and she’s 25 years old. She’s the daughter of the owner of the country club” she said excitedly and I grimaced.
” Fine. Set it up, mum. But this is the last time. No more meddling.” I warned
“Yes Yes,” she said dismissively and I sighed
I knew she wasn’t going to listen to me, anyway, the date is already dead before it started I grinned
Reminiscing back to how I have dumped some blind dates that she has arranged in the past with the excuse of they are not up to my standard, and this one won’t be different.
“How’s dad?” I asked
He’s getting better, I’m tired of telling him to take his meds and also that he needs to rest” She fussed, and I chuckled
” Hang in there mum. You know retiring wasn’t easy for him and coupled with this change in his health”
“Yes, yes, I know.” She sighed
“Okay well, I have to go now. Send me the details of the date, when you’re done.” I said
” I will, and I better see you for dinner on Sunday. Don’t think I forgot that you skipped last week“. I cringed, knowing that I would be in for it when her excitement wore off.
” Yes, mum, I’ll come by on Sunday. I’ll talk to you later”.
She said her final goodbyes and I hung up
Jeez, that woman is a handful
I took over the Lawson company after my dad Alfred Lawson became bedridden and was diagnosed with a brain tumor, as his first and only son I have to take over the company.
It has not been easy having a social life because I am always occupied with work and the ladies I spend intimate moments with. I always try to define whatever we’re having as a fling and nothing more. And always make sure to pay them well for a service well rendered but they always want more like a relationship. I shook my head and walked towards my large wine cellar and poured myself a champagne. I swirl the wine in my glass and sip slowly, savoring the wine, and then slowly walk around the house. An idea came into my mind and I immediately gulped down my drink and placed a call to my secretary asking her to set up a meeting between Lawson company and Graham company requesting a meeting as a member of their shareholder. She agreed and I disconnected the call and chuckled loudly.
I already hired a secret agent to spy on Myra, that way I get to know her daily routine, and where she works, more like every freakin stuff about her and finding out she works as an assistant for her husband got me angry, why such a lowly position, she’s worth more than that as the best graduating student, I know she’s is super talented in business management, though I wasn’t pleased with the news. It’s an added advantage to me, I can easily set up a camouflage meeting while my real intention is to go there and steal glances at her. Call me crazy but the thought of her occupies an incredible percentage of my heart. Myra Graham was the very breath I took.
The ringing of the doorbell made me rush to the door since I’m in the lounge close to the entrance. I unlocked the door and was greeted by a grin from the slender-looking man standing on the patio.
” Hey buddy” Frank Lawson raised his hand in a bid to give his cousin a high fiveProperty © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Come in” I shook his hands and stepped aside for him to walk in
“How are you” Frank inquired
“Do I look okay to you ” I furrowed my eyebrows
” Simple courtesy cousin you should serve a guest before choking him or her with your troubles,” Frank said
“Ouch sorry gee I forgot and besides you’re not a guest so stop acting like one, it’s better you move to the wine cellar and grab your fav, if you want to quench that taste” I answered him
He throws his hands in the air and walked toward the cellar and grabs a bottle of Dom Perignon and unscrews the wine and poured out some for himself and asked whether he should pour some for me and I gently declined the offer, showing him the empty bottle of champagne, I took not quite long. He sips his wine and looked at me and inquired
“Looks like you have been set up on another date that’s the only time, you always look like a piece of shit with the gloomy look but it’s not a bad idea you know, you get to spend time with a lot of beautiful damsels” Frank laughed as he sat on the comfy leather couch and crossed his legs
“Is that how you see it?” I asked
” Yep, not bad buddy, you should try dating and stop this night fling who knows you might meet someone better” He winks
” Don’t give me that look” I pointed at him
A deep and sonorous laugh spreads through the room and his voice rumbles in his chest
“The truth is that you look like a lovesick puppy”
“What’s with you, man it’s high time you stop loving her for Godsake she’s in the hands of another man”
” You know how many ladies that are tripping for you man”
” You are damn handsome and you know the way, women hurl themselves at you, why then are you stopping yourself from exploring”
” The last time I checked she was married to the most influential dude and first leading company and also second on the Forbes list, not just that, who doesn’t know that Damian Graham is a monstrous devil that deals ruthlessly with anybody that trespasses his boundary”
” Think man, don’t risk your life or put the company in jeopardy because of whatever childish feelings that are stuck in your head” Frank spoke without holding back
My face contorted in rage and my nose flared up as I stared at Frank. I couldn’t believe he said all that shit, does he know what his words just did to my heart, it felt as if my heart had been ripped off.
He looked at me frightened and quickly apologized
” Sorry, buddy I said all that just that I want to see you happy and also she rejected you before right, what makes you think she won’t do it again this time around, I understand she’s your first love but you can always create a space for another in your heart.” with that he jokingly hit my arm saying
“Relax okay!!”
You don’t understand Frank, it’s difficult for me to admire another, the thoughts of her keep me awake all through the night, and her voice keeps ringing in my ears. Her beautiful smile keeps me going. She might be married but in my heart she is single. Even if she rejects me for the second time, I will still be glad knowing I fell in love with a rare diamond.
” She’s the sun that shines on my toughest days”
” She’s the moon that shines on my darkest and lonely nights”
“I can never love another and will never leave her” It’s her or nobody else”
“Soon Myra ”
” Soon I will be seeing your beautiful face again,” I mumbled.”
