Chapter 22 You're A Better Liar Than I Am
In the end, she got snared in a web of intrigue.
Her face was on the quilt made of ice silk, her eyes staring blankly at the silhouette through the bathroom door. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Soon, the water stopped running.
That outline approached the door, and when he opened it, she could clearly see him.
It was Eddison Yates in the flesh.
It turned out her memory didn't go wrong.
He'd taken her back, indeed.
He was topless, his square shoulders and narrow waist in an inverted triangle with well-built muscles, his tempting figure in the Golden Ratio. He wrapped a bath towel around his waist, his hair still dripping wet with water beads dropping about his shoulder neck and going down, leaving shallow marks on his sculptured chest.
Seeing her awake and soberer, he approached and reached a hand to caress her forehead and neck.
She was not as much hot as she was last night.
"Untie me."
She could barely push those words out of her throat.
"How do you feel right now?"
He asked as untied her.
"Why did you tie me up?"
"You scratched me."
He untied her and tossed the tie away.
She immediately pulled up the blanket to cover her body so she could prop herself up.
Eddison turned around and went to his locker room.
She saw several scratches on his back, the proof that she'd scratched him.
Being tied up for hours left reining traces on her wrists, and her sore arms were too strengthless for her to raise.
"Eddison Yates, you broke your promise."
She had listed her requests before she signed the agreement.
But he didn't follow.
A smirk went up on his lips as he heard her, yet he didn't look back but trotted into the locker room to change.
Gwenyth was wrapping herself in the blanket and sitting on the bed, staring at him with her bloodshot eyes like she was going to stab him a million times.
He would have been dead a million times if she could kill with stares.
"Me? Broke promise?"
He went to her and sit down opposite, regaining his peaceful look after the smirk on his face was gone.
"You did break your promise."
"I didn't do anything the agreement forbids me to do. Does it forbid sleeping with you?"
Gwenyth was dumbfounded.
She was gullible enough to swallow his oral promise.
"You should trust the promises that are written on paper. Consider last night a lesson I taught you."
As he finished the weasel words, Gwenyth raised an arm and tried to hit him.
He easily grabbed her slim wrist and added, "We're adults. Don't be such a prude since you were not keeping your virginity for anyone."
"Isn't it enough for you to torture my body? You have to humiliate me on top of that?"
What he was doing was no less than stabbing her in the heart.
"Did I say anything wrong?"
"Eddison Yates, you cross the line."
"It's not easy to make three million dollars. You've seen it coming before you signed the agreement, haven't you?"
"But you promised me..."
"Oral promises don't matter! Plus, you're a better liar than I am."
While he was saying that, he had a grim frown on his face, his eyes darkening. He no longer looked like a playboy but a cruel beast at the moment.
Gwenyth didn't understand, so asked, "What does that supposed to mean?"
"You know exactly what it means."
He had more words than he expressed, but Gwenyth couldn't get them.
"I don't understand what you're talking about."
"Then forget what I said."
He loosed and pushed away her wrists.
She was pushed face down the bed, her cheeks attaching the rather cold quilt again. She had no strength to get up and felt the sores on her body killing her. This push made her dizzy and painful, giving her eyes a blackout.
"Don't lie there like you were dead. Get up and clean yourself."
His cruel words were followed by a noise caused by his slamming the door, to which her body shivered. Her chest thus throbbed.
It took her a long time, longer than she could realize, to regain her vision.
She got up slowly off the bed and went to the bathroom wrapped in a blanket.
While taking a shower, she found blues and purples on her body, proof that Eddison Yates abused her last night. That triggered her emotion and tears that she couldn't help.
She wiped her face with a hand, trying to make herself peaceful, but it continued uncontrollably anyway, and her tears were streaming not at her will.
Eddison said she wasn't keeping her virginity for anyone, accusing her of being a prude.
Was that keeping her virginity for him since she had only been with him?
He said she was a better liar.
She didn't lie to him even once.
Yet, he'd tricked her into bed last night.
He'd realized Nancy drugged the booze yet he'd asked her to drink it on purpose.
He'd weaved a web to snare her and drain her out.
Even if he was using her, why would he have to go further and trick her into sex?
If such a thing happened once, the second time, the third time would be waiting ahead.
How could she get through the three months to come?
Seven o'clock in the morning
Eddison was sitting at the table with a knife and fork, patiently savoring the bacon and sausage on his plate.
Hearing footsteps, he looked up and found Gwenyth passing through the parlor.
She let her hair run down about her shoulders, wearing a black shirt of his that seemed too baggy for her and so long it reached her knees. She put on that pair of black stilettos he sent her, making a
weird match of dressing, yet sexy and alluring in a way on her.
"Miss Lovelace."
He called her.
"You can leave after breakfast. I'll arrange for someone to drive you home."
She stopped and looked in the direction of the dining table.
"I don't need breakfast, but I do need a ride now."
She didn't have clothes here to change. The dress she wore last night got torn apart by Edison, thus wearing his shirt at this point.
If she went out in this outfit, to catch a subway or bus, she would receive as much attention as monkeys in a zoo.
Eddison said no more and had a driver to send her home.
She arrived home twenty minutes before eight when Ursula should be sleeping.
For fear of making a loud noise to wake Ursula, she took off the stilettos at the door, lightly open the door with the key, and walked in on her bare feet with the shoes in her hands.
Even though she tried to avoid the noise, the old burglar-proof door failed her by letting out a creak.
Ursula had long been awake since she'd been barely asleep during the night. She'd made so many calls to Gwenyth who didn't come home the entire night but none connected. She was so worried and prepared to call the police.
As soon as hearing the noise, she hurried out of her room.
Seeing Gwenyth sneaking in and wearing a man's shirt, her hair wet, and the obvious purples and reds on her neck, Ursula knew what Gwenyth was up to doing the entire night because she, a mother of two children, had been that place.
"Mom."
Gwenyth's head dropped as she faced serious-looking Ursula and said, "I... Last night I was helping my colleague..."
"Want to lie to me again?"
Ursula interrupted her and took several steps towards her to strip the neckline of her shirt.
Confirming that these marks on her neck were hickeys, she felt her feelings mixed.
"Mom, I made mistakes. Next time, I'll..."
"Gwen, are you having a boyfriend?"
Ursula interrupted her again.
Gwenyth froze at that question.
Boyfriend?
She stretched up the neckline and brazened it out with a nod, "Sort of."
What could she reply after Ursula found out the marks Eddison left on her?
She had to pretend she had a boyfriend.
