Chapter 37: Since When Were You This Responsible?
Chapter 37: Since When Were You This Responsible?
At the police station, Fleur had been in the interrogation room for a while.
She had been consistently drinking water, having it refilled every time.
A young officer had asked her why she was not worried, Fleur had responded: "Why should I be?"
"You really have nothing to do with this?" The police officer really had no more questions to ask, so
began chatting with her.
"Who ever told you that? I do."
"..."
"I made the rules. He was beaten up because of it."
"...You..." The officer was stunned speechless. Fleur was too beautiful and graceful in her honesty.
"I accept the Lopez family's accusations." Even the playful tone in her voice had the officer blushing.
......
Fleur had been here for an hour when Virginie arrived. She joined Fleur in the interrogation room after
a word with the officer.
It was just the two of them in here. Under the bright white lights tonight, these two woman added some
radiant colours to the room.
"Fleur Leroy." Virginie looked at her indifferently. Her hair was half-tied, a whiff of rich arrogance coming
off her.
"Why did you offend our Lopez family? Your reputation with a nightclub is bad enough, but now with an
added life sentence: Do you really hope to make your life irreparable?"
Fleur casually turned the officer's pen in one hand. "I've offended more than enough people in the past
six months. At present, the Lopez family is indeed the largest party to have found offence, but there
was no other way. My rules apply to whoever goes to my club, no matter who they are."
"So you've already prepared for the consequences?"
Fleur replied calmly, "I'm not afraid of any consequence."
Virginie clenched his fists. Why was this woman so arrogant? Both in her demeanour and her speech.
Was it because of...Olivier?
"Since when were you so intimate with Olivier? Do you really think he'll help you out in this situation
just because he helped you check the surveillance footage and made you dinner?" Virginie had been
stunned for half an hour after seeing the news. She dared not believe that man was Olivier, that he was
cooking for Fleur.
Virginie had known him for ten years, but she never knew Olivier knew how to cook!
"He pampers you so much, why would he stand up for me?" Fleur said coolly.
Virginie sneered. Good that you know that, Fleur thought.
"But I'll make him stand up for me. Do you believe that?"
"A woman with your repute would naturally know a trick or two to lure men in. I can imagine some ways
to do that." After all, Fleur had only shown up for three days and had already destroyed her ten year
relationship with Olivier.
"Our affairs are a long story. Release my staff and I'll bear everything that comes."
"...What did you say?" Virginie could not believe her ears.
"I admit all this started because of me. Let my men go. I'll confess to everything."
"Since when were you this responsible?"
"I don't have much choice. Just my luck it was Master Lopez who got beaten up."
The Lopez family could easily defeat a nightclub. Fleur would not be able to handle a full onslaught of
attacks from their family, Virginie thought.
......
The papers were quickly signed, orders executed.
Half an hour later, the six people including Thierry was released. Thierry came to Fleur, angrily
exclaiming, "Miss Leroy, that bastard broke our waitress' teeth to, this-"
"Shut up," Fleur said flatly. Thierry did. "Take them back. They don't have to work tonight. I'll treat them
afterwards."
"Yes, miss." Thierry continued worriedly, "What about you? What if you end up sentenced to prison?"
Fleur looked outside the window but said nothing.
......
Fleur was huddled in a corner, her casualwear unable to keep her warm against the autumnal chill in
the air.
Virginie was arriving to the cell.
Her eyes were full of hate and cruel satisfaction. "Fleur, this was not a big deal in the first place. My
brother only wanted to see you but got out of line. You're not dumb. You know what to do if you want to
get out of here."
Apologize and leave Olivier alone from now on.
"Tsk." Fleur said softly, "I don't understand you. Why do you persist with Samuel yet keep your claws
dug into Olivier? Samuel has been dead for a year and a half. If you still want to cling onto him, then
just be a widow. But here you are still clinging onto other men. It's such a lowly and stupid thing to do."
"You dare educate me on that while sitting here behind bars?"
"Virginie Lopez." Fleur addressed her full name. "You don't even know what kind of trouble you're
causing. What grounds do you have to ask me to leave Olivier?"
"Fleur Leroy, watch your tone! You have insulted me more than once. There'll be no turning back if I
banish you from this city! Not even Olivier would help you!"
The two had indeed had a decade-long relationship, even if it was not romantic, it was still a friendship.
What's more, Olivier liked her, and had even sent a steak dinner to her via private jet a couple hundred
miles out to the countryside. In the club, Fleur had even asked if Olivier would give the rest of his life
and...love, to Virginie.
To which Olivier had answered without hesitation: "Of course."
How could Fleur compete with Virginie?
"Stay here with me," Fleur said suddenly.
"What?"
"Do you really think I'll spend the night here? Stay, and you'll see just how soon I'll be getting out of Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
here."
Virginie felt her heart skip. Fleur was beautiful, beautiful enough to have some big leagues come to her
aid at a single beck and call.
But Virginie knew those big leagues in Y City, and none of them were protecting Fleur.
Virginie still stayed. She would not admit it but she was truly curious about Fleur's claim.
She wanted to know how Fleur would be released tonight. Not just tonight, but if the Lopez family did
not permit it, she would not be released even after a month.
Virginie waited in the lounge for an hour or so. Around 11 o'clock, she called Olivier, wanting to know if
he would come to Fleur's rescue.
"Olivier."
Olivier hummed in greeting.
The man's voice was deep and pleasant. Virginie smiled, "Where are you?"
"At home, getting ready for bed. Why did you call?"
At home, he would not be coming then. Virginie felt relieved.
"No, no reason. I have something to take care of here." Virginie took the opportunity to speak with him.
"Why didn't you reply to me before? Are you still angry with me?"
"My marriage proposal was turned down, Miss Lopez, do you expect me to pretend it didn't happen?"
"No, it's...no." Virginie didn't know how to continue, so she simply asked another question, "Is your
relationship with Fleur really that close?"
