Chapter Thirty
“He could be like this sometimes. Join us, he doesn’t have a say,” she said, smiling forcibly.
Kai stared at her dumbfounded. Goddess, what did he agree on?
He opened his mouth to protest but Cassy’s eyes widened and she nodded her head slightly towards Audrey which signified that he should stop arguing, her sister was there.
Kai looked away, refusing to utter a word
“Come, I would lead you inside,” Cassy said, gesturing towards the palace building.
“Thank you, sister,” Audrey said with a smile.
Cassy turned to find that Kai was not there, causing her to be surprised. Where did he go?
Cassy led her sister and the guards holding her trunks into the palace with Joanna and Emma too. Cassy was elated that her sister was finally there with her. She had company now.
Audrey’s thoughts took over her mind as they began to walk back to the main palace.
She felt a little bit guilty because of her actions. What would others say about her?
She was blinded by jealousy that she did not think twice before she rushed into his arms. What was she turning into?
“Where is the alph–” Audrey tried to say but Cassy quickly shut her out.
“Shh–” she shushed, putting her index finger on her own lips.
Audrey had a look of confusion on her face as she wondered what was going on.Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
“You cannot address him like that here. You are in the palace and not the beta’s manor,” she told her in a hushed tone.
What? When did she start sounding like this?
“Then what can I address him with?” she asked with the best faux smile she could muster on her face.
“Your majesty or your highness. But most preferably, your majesty,” she told her and Audrey nodded.
She was now looking around the palace and admiring the surrounding.
Words she had heard about the beauty of the palace did no justice. It was more beautiful than they had said.
Her sister was now living here.
Oh, how much she wanted to live here too. She was not jealous, she only wanted a good life too.
“Then you have to heed to mother,” her wolf told her but she shoved her away.
She was not going to harbor those thoughts again.
Cassy stopped walking and every other person following them did too.
“We would go to dine now while Emma would take your belongings to your bed chamber. After we have had breakfast you would be shown to your bed chamber,” Cassy impounded and turned to Emma who was surprised that Cassy had put her in charge of something.
“Emma, you would lead the guards to my sister’s bed chamber,” she ordered.
“Yes, your highness,” Emma curtsied with both hands in front of her belly.
“Your highness?” Audrey’s wolf questioned, resounding it in her head.
She was going to dismiss it but now she was bringing it to her notice, and she could not shake it off.
They were now even addressing her as the Luna when she was only here as a visitor and was required to return back to her mother who now termed her as the cursed and unfortunate one.
Cassy nodded and turned to Audrey who was still lost in her own world.
“Audrey–” she paused when she noticed that she was not paying attention.
Cassy used her middle finger to hit her forehead softly, jolting her out of her reverie and causing her to wince.
“Where are your thoughts?” Cassy asked, giggling.
Audrey tried to smile as she shook her head.
“These are my handmaids, Joanna and Emma,” Cassy introduced them and they both curtsied.
“My lady,” they greeted in unison.
Audrey nodded slightly still trying to process her words.
Two handmaids!? Cassy was surely living a dream life.
They began to walk again and when they got to a spot which led to two different hallways, Emma dispersed with the two guards.
“My lady,” Joanna called out to Cassy who turned to look at her.
“His majesty had requested that we meet him at the dining hall,” she informed her.
Cassy tried to hide her look of surprise.
So, there was a dining hall? How come did she not know?
“Alright,” she answered with a smile on her face.
The smile was to hide the look of surprise her face was still holding.
Joanna led them to the dining hall which both Cassy and Audrey noted was large.
It had a long and large table sitting in the middle of the room with gold-designed chairs surrounding it. And from the middle of the ceiling, a large chandelier with candles aided in illuminating the large room.
Cassy’s eyes met Kai’s frame which was sitting at the end of the table. She went to sit on the chair beside him while Audrey sat opposite her.
Audrey opened her mouth to apologize to him for her behaviour earlier but he spoke first. His words made her decide that she was going to keep her mouth shut.
“What took you long, Cassy?” Kai asked as the servants began to dish out the meal.
“Oh. I had to make sure everything was put in place for Audrey,” she explained and pouted. “Forgive me, my love.” Cassy didn’t know where the words and action came from but she said and did it anyway.
Kai almost choked on the food in his mouth. What was that? When did she learn those words?
Audrey on the other hand watched both of them from beneath her eyelashes. Do they have to act all lovey-dovey in front of her?
She wanted to roll her eyes but she had no choice but to hold it in.
“I apologize for delaying your meal time, your majesty,” she wanted to stop there but she had to find something for herself. “I had even presumed that you had already begun to eat.”
Kai shook his head, looking at Cassy lovingly.
“I cannot have my meal without her presence if she is available,” he brought his hand to her hair and patted it.
Cassy stared at him in shock but to Audrey, it seemed like she had admiration in her eyes which made something stir up in her.
Cassy looked away from him as he retracted his hand.
Goddess, what was this man doing?
He was overdoing it or was he doing it intentionally?
She looked at him and found a smirk on his usually stoic face.
He was not only cold but also a cunning person.
He took a shrimp and placed it on her plate.
“You should eat more of that. Aunt Marlene used to say it helped one to become wise,” he told her with a taunting smile.
Her lips twisted and she glared at him.
“You!…” she wanted to return his poison but she decided against it and broke into a smile.
“You should stop teasing me like that.”
They seemed to have shared the same brain cells as both of them broke into a burst of forced laughter.
Audrey sat there watching the both of them and wondering what was amusing them.
They stopped abruptly at the same time and Cassy turned to her sister to find a surprised look on her face.
Oh, poor lady, she did not know what was going on.
She could not help but feel sorry for putting her in that position. If only she could let her know the real issue but it was impossible.
She did not know why but she was sure that words were going to reach her mother if she ever told her the true nature of their relationship.
“Here,” she put a piece of meat on her plate, smiling.
Audrey stood up trying hard not to show that she was annoyed.
“I am done. I would go have a look at my room now,” she said and stood up, pushing her chair backwards with her legs.
“Audrey…” She bowed to Kai and left before Cassy could finish her sentence.
Cassy exhaled and turned to Kai glaring at him.
“What?” he questioned without looking at her.
He was doing this again. How did he know she was looking at him?
“Why did you do that?” she asked, folding her arms across her chest.
“Do what? I did nothing,” he raised his head and licked his lower lip.
She was mesmerized by his handsome face and gray eyes for a moment but she quickly snapped out of it.
“I know I asked for your help but don’t you think you were being too much just now?” she asked and he raised an eyebrow at her.
She exhaled through her lips. Why was he playing dumb now?
“Can you not see that she left the table after she beheld our relationship,” she rolled her eyes at the mention of the word ‘relationship’. “She barely even touched her food.” she gestured to where Audrey had sat.
Her plate was still filled with food. It looked untouched.
“That’s her problem then,” he said nonchalantly.
Cassy sighed and stood up.
“I would go check with her but please stop making things hard for me. It’s not a request, it’s an order,”
With that, she walked out of the dining hall. She was going in search of Audrey.
She knew her sister was probably hurt. She had to see her to confirm.
Cassy made sure that Audrey’s bed chamber was at least a hallway away from hers.
She knew Audrey for being too curious, so she had to make sure that she was not anywhere near her chamber to prevent her from reaching there.
Cassy reached Audrey’s bed chamber and knocked on the wooden door.
“Come in,” she heard Audrey’s voice after two knocks.
She pushed the door open. She found Audrey standing close to the bed with her trunk in front of her. She was offloading them and arranging them into the armoire which was standing adjacent to the bed.
Cassy bent over and picked up a black petticoat, she folded it and placed it in the armoire.
“I… I am sorry for… what happened back there,” she stuttered and shot Audrey an apologetic smile.
“What happened? I did not see anything wrong there I am just the unfortunate one,” she tried to laugh it off but Cassy already got the hint.
She dropped the red chainse she was holding and went to hold her hands in hers.
“You do not have to talk like that, Audrey. Has Tabitha been giving you a hard time?” she asked, staring at the other woman who had her head lowered.
After receiving a lot of insults and beating she finally got used to calling her by her name.
Audrey nodded. “Yes,”
Cassy exhaled. How come has she not thought about this for long?
She knew Tabitha for being so naggy and quarrelsome but she did not expect her to show the same attitude to her beloved daughter.
“I should have known that she was going to give you a hard time but you do not have to take it to heart. In the past she had said a lot to me and so I had to grow accustomed to her insults,” Cassy told her and touched her shoulder.
“It’s only a matter of time, you would get used to it so much that it would sound like a little lad babbling.” The both of them laughed.
Cassy’s lips curved into a genuine smile when they stopped laughing.
“Don’t be in a hurry. Everything would happen at the right time,” she uttered looking into Audrey’s eyes.
Audrey smiled and pulled her in for a hug.
“Thank you so much, Cassy,” she whispered. She was trying hard to keep the tears brewing up in her eyes at bay.
They separated from the hug and continued arranging the clothes.
“We should get this done as quickly as possible. I have a lot to tell you about my trip to the blessed moon pack!” Cassy beamed and Audrey nodded with a smile.
“Looking forward to it,”
Cassy and Audrey spent the entire day catching up on each other. They also had lunch and dinner together
When it was bedtime, Cassy recalled that she was now going to live with him until Audrey leaves and she could not help but groan.
How was she going to put up with his stony face and his cold and cunning attitude?
If only she could spend the night in Audrey’s bed chamber.
She kissed Audrey’s forehead and bade her good night.
In no time, she was in front of his bed chamber. After doing all the types of breathing techniques known to her, she knocked on the door.
She turned the doorknob when she heard him permit her in.
She found him sitting in the parlour, having dinner. Cassy saw this as an opportunity to take her bath.
She walked past him and went into the room. She stripped off her clothes and entered into the bathroom.
She threw on a chemise and went to lie on the bed.
She was already drifting into a dreamless slumber when she heard Kai’s voice.
“What are you laying there?” he asked, annoyance clear in his voice.
Cassy pried her eyes open. He was standing across the bed, shooting her daggers with his eyes.
“What does it look like?” she replied sarcastically.
She was already exhausted and all she wanted was a good night’s rest but she was not sure he was going to allow her to be.
Kai scoffed. “Did you ever ask me where you would lay your head?”
“There is a bed, so why would I ask?” she seemed to have understood what he meant and broke into a fit of laughter.
“If you are not willing to maintain boundaries and share the bed with me you might as well get a pillow and a quilt and find someone else to pass the night.”
Kai furrowed his eyebrows. The audacity of this woman! How could she speak to him like that!?
This woman was something.
