Meanwhile, Alpha Kilian was still hanging around the company when Zachary came downstairs. But it would be more accurate to say that Alpha Kilian was waiting for Zachary.
“You’re still here, Alpha Morris?” asked Zachary as he approached.
Alpha Kilian locked eyes with him and got straight to the point. “How long have you been with her?”
Zachary frowned. “You mean Nelly?”
Alpha Kilian fell silent and seemed irritated by the nickname, making it clear that he was indeed referring to Nelly.
Zachary chuckled and explained, “Alpha Morris, you’ve misunderstood. Nelly and I aren’t dating.”
Alpha Kilian appeared shocked by this revelation.
“Really?” he asked.
“Yep,” Zachary nodded.
Alpha Kilian’s hostility decreased as he spoke with less aggression. “So, you guys are-”
Zachary interrupted, “Pardon my directness, but may I ask what your relationship with Nelly is, Alpha Morris?”
Alpha Kilian’s eyes narrowed as he responded, “What do you think?”
“Alpha Morris, if you wanted to keep your relationship with her private, was it really necessary to come and interrogate me?” Zachary retorted. He may not be involved in the corporate world, but he wouldn’t let anyone walk all over him.
Alpha Kilian walked over, locking eyes with Zachary. He wore an arrogant expression and stated, “She and I used to have a deeply intimate relationship.”
Zachary showed no annoyance or anger upon hearing this. Instead, he raised an eyebrow and asked, “You’re her ex-husband?”
Alpha Kilian’s eyes narrowed further. “You’re aware that she was once married?”
“Is that so shocking?” Zachary chuckled.
Alpha Kilian scrutinized Zachary, thinking that he wasn’t as open as he appeared. A grin appeared on Alpha Kilian’s face as he replied, “It is.”
Zachary put his hands in his pockets, adopting a casual and relaxed tone. “Since you’ve been honest with me, Alpha Morris, I won’t hide the truth. Nelly and I are just friends for now.”
“Currently?” Alpha Kilian fixated on him.
Zachary chuckled again. “Yeah. I plan to pursue her.”
Alpha Kilian narrowed his eyes murderously.
“That’s why we’re friends for now. I’ll give my all to pursue her,” Zachary said with utmost seriousness.
Alpha Kilian remained silent, but his growing disbelief and warning were evident in his eyes.
Sometimes, words weren’t necessary to communicate between men. One glance was enough.
In terms of influence and wealth, Zachary couldn’t match up to Alpha Kilian.
“You’ve asked a lot of questions, Alpha Morris. Are you still planning to get back with Nelly?” Zachary asked.
Alpha Kilian chuckled in response. “So what if I am? And so what if I’m not?”
“If you are, then we’re enemies from now on. But if you’re not, I hope you won’t interfere too much in Nelly’s life because I’ll be taking care of her,” Zachary stated with a smile, acting like a charming gentleman.
Both men had the same height and build, but their auras were completely different. One seemed warm and sincere, while the other was cold and distant.
“You shouldn’t get too cocky. I doubt you can win her over,” Alpha Kilian said.
“My goal isn’t to win her over. It’s to bring her happiness and joy like she’s never felt before. I want to make her blissful,” Zachary’s words carried a hidden meaning.
Alpha Kilian sneered. “Let’s see if you can hold onto that confidence.”
“I will,” Zachary confidently nodded.
Zachary’s phone rang, and he looked at the caller ID but chose not to answer it.
“Well, Alpha Morris, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way,” Zachary said.
“Go ahead,” Alpha Kilian responded.
Zachary nodded and started to leave, but he paused after a few steps and turned back to Alpha Kilian. “Alpha Morris, do you know someone named Tony?”
A suspicious look crossed Alpha Kilian’s face. “Who’s that?”
“No one important. It was just a random question,” Zachary chuckled, amused by Alpha Kilian’s reaction. Then he departed.
Alpha Kilian’s prideful aura emanated from his body as he watched Zachary leave, pondering over his last question.
By the time Zachary got into his car, he glanced back at Alpha Kilian, Nelly’s ex-husband and Tony’s father. He had deduced their connection from observing their interactions earlier.
Moreover, Tony bore a striking resemblance to Alpha Kilian’s aloofness.
From their conversation, Zachary could sense that Alpha Kilian cared about Nelly, even if he didn’t admit it. As a man himself, Zachary understood.
The only thing that surprised Zachary was that Alpha Kilian hadn’t mentioned their children. That’s why he asked about Tony.
It seemed that Alpha Kilian had no idea about the existence of their three kids.
Amused by this revelation, Zachary grinned as he buckled up and drove away.
Alpha Kilian found Zachary’s last question suspicious, but he didn’t think too much about it. He was more focused on Zachary’s declaration to pursue Nelly.
He couldn’t understand why Zachary would fall for someone like Nelly – someone boring and aggressive.
And yet, he couldn’t shake off the heavy weight on his chest, an unexplainable annoyance lurking within him as he glanced upstairs.
Just then, he received a call from Fabian. “Are you back, Alpha Morris?”
“Do I need to inform you about everything I do now?” Alpha Kilian retorted.
Fabian didn’t know what to say in response to that.
After a moment, he finally said, “That’s not what I meant, Alpha Morris-”
“Well, what do you mean?” Alpha Kilian asked.
Fabian replied, “Um… didn’t you ask me to call you before the meeting?”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
“So? You’re calling me just because I told you to?” Alpha Kilian’s frustration was evident.
Fabian felt helpless in that moment.
What’s wrong with you, Alpha Morris? Why are you taking your anger out on me?
Alpha Kilian arrived at his office soon after. He wore a stormy expression all afternoon, unnerving everyone, even during the meeting.
When the meeting ended, the staff quickly dispersed. Just as Fabian wanted to leave, Alpha Kilian stopped him and said, “Come to my office, Fabian.”
Frozen in place, Fabian turned to see sympathetic looks from his colleagues, and some seemed to revel in his misfortune.
Damn it. Is this a blessing or a curse? Either way, I can’t run away from it. I’ll have to face it head-on…
Summoning his courage, Fabian walked into Alpha Kilian’s office. “Is there something you need, Alpha Morris?”
Alpha Kilian frowned. “Why are you standing so far away?”
“I was just afraid you would be upset with me,” Fabian said, taking a tiny step closer.
Alpha Kilian didn’t care as he asked, “How is the investigation I asked you to do going?”
“What investigation?” Fabian asked innocently, only for Alpha Kilian to give him a murderous glare. Chills ran down Fabian’s spine as he quickly added, “Oh, you mean the matter regarding Ms. Jackson?”
Alpha Kilian said nothing, confirming Fabian’s guess. So Fabian continued, “I’ve investigated it, and I was about to report the findings to you. It turns out that Ms. Jackson used to work as a programmer overseas. She earned a decent living doing programming work for others, but her income is much less than ten million.”
“That’s it?” Alpha Kilian asked.
