Suddenly, the Alpha King Larry could no longer maintain his balance. His heart thundered in his chest, his vision blurred, and he crumpled to the ground.
“The ambulance! Call the ambulance!” Alpha Wade urgently demanded.
“On it,” Nelly immediately made the call.
Outside the emergency room of the royal hospital, everyone anxiously waited for news.
Finally, the doctor emerged from the room, and a crowd quickly surrounded him.
“Doctor, how did it go?”
“Doctor, how is my grandfather?” Alpha Kilian asked, concern etched on his face.
The doctor removed his mask and met their gaze. “For now, the Alpha King is stable. He is an elderly werewolf suffering from heart disease, so it is crucial that you do not agitate him.”Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
A collective sigh of relief swept through the crowd. But they knew that the news of Alpha King Larry Morris’ health condition must be kept secret for the safety of the werewolf kingdom.
However, Alpha Kilian was destined to ascend the throne soon. Although the kingdom was civilized like human cities, it still required a single ruler, and Alpha Kilian was the most suitable candidate.
“May we visit him now?” Alpha Kilian inquired.
The doctor nodded. “Once he is settled in his ward, you may visit him. Remember, do not agitate him.”
Alpha Kilian nodded solemnly.
Shortly after, Alpha Larry was transported to his ward, and the visitors filed into the room.
Upon seeing Alpha Kilian, Alpha Larry huffed icily and pretended not to notice him.
Fearful of angering the Alpha King further, Alpha Kilian remained silent.
At that moment, Alpha Wade approached Alpha Larry. “Alpha Larry, you scared me. I thought I was having a heart attack because of you.”
“What’s wrong? Afraid? If I die, you won’t have anyone to play chess with. It serves you right for keeping your distance!” Alpha Larry snapped angrily.
“Nonsense! Stop saying that!” Alpha Wade glared at him. “You’re old, but that doesn’t mean you should act like a child!”
“I’m sick. Stop scolding me.”
“Fine, I will stop scolding you. I was wrong. Are you happy now?” Alpha Wade relented.
Alpha Larry nodded in satisfaction.
Nelly spoke up, her voice filled with warmth. “Old Alpha Morris, please take care of yourself. Soon, you and my grandfather can move to his house in the countryside. I will ensure that you can enjoy your twilight years in peace.”
Alpha Larry beamed upon hearing her words. “I’m glad to hear that. That way, I won’t have to worry about my twilight years.”
Alpha Kilian gaped in disbelief.
He couldn’t help but feel as though Alpha Larry was mocking him.
Did I ever say I wouldn’t take care of him?
“Alright, it’s getting late. You’re not a young man who can stay up late anymore. Nelly, take your grandfather back home so he can rest,” Alpha Larry said, his tone softer.
“I’ll keep you company tonight,” Alpha Wade offered. He knew he wouldn’t be able to fall asleep at home anyway.
Alpha Larry retorted, “Why bother? I’m not dead yet. You’re too weak to make it through the night. By morning, you’ll be lying in bed next to me.”
“Hey!”
“Fine, I know your intentions are good. Prepare some food and bring a chess set tomorrow,” Alpha Larry suggested.
Alpha Wade still appeared worried.
Alpha Kilian reassured him, “Don’t worry, Old Mr. Jackson. I will spend the night with him.”
Although Alpha Wade didn’t particularly like Alpha Kilian, he knew that the latter was a loyal grandson. Alpha Kilian had been raised by Alpha Larry, so it was only natural for him to take care of Alpha Larry for the night.
As they prepared to leave, Alpha Kilian offered, “Let me see you out.”
Alpha Wade quickly stopped him. “No need for that. Just take good care of your grandfather.” With that said, he and Nelly departed.
Alpha Kilian and Lara were the only ones left in the ward.
Lara spoke up, her voice strained. “Alpha Kilian, stay here with Old Alpha Morris. I’ll go buy some daily necessities.”
“There’s no need for that, Ms. Gareth,” Alpha Larry interrupted. “It’s late. You should head back and rest.”
It was clear that he wanted her to leave, and Lara glanced at Alpha Kilian before giving a curt nod. “Alright then. I’ll take my leave now.”
Both Alpha Larry and Alpha Kilian didn’t bother to respond to her departure.
Lara’s mood soured as she turned on her heel and walked away.
Now, only Alpha Larry and Alpha Kilian remained in the ward.
Lying in the bed, Alpha Larry contemplated how he should unleash his anger once Alpha Kilian approached him.
Pulling out a chair, Alpha Kilian sat down and said calmly, “Alright, yell at me if you want.”
“You-”
“I know you can’t bring yourself to scold me,” Alpha Kilian cut in.
“You little b*stard. Are you trying to provoke me?” Despite his words, Alpha Larry didn’t seem as angry as before.
“I swear I was genuinely worried about you. I want you to live a long life, Grandpa. Why would I want to provoke you?” Alpha Kilian quickly responded.
“What about the engagement? Why do I know nothing about it?” Alpha Larry snapped. “Are you planning to get married without informing me, just like how you treated Nelly before?”
“Grandpa, that was just a rumor,” Alpha Kilian explained patiently. “Marriage is a significant decision. I would never get married without your approval.”
“You’ve done plenty of things I disapprove of,” Alpha Larry retorted, refusing to believe his grandson’s explanation.
“Alright, tell me, what do I need to do for you to trust me?” Alpha Kilian asked, his tone kind and genuine. Though Alpha Larry was reprimanding him, he knew deep down that Alpha Larry loved him more than anyone else ever could.
Alpha Larry stared at him for a long moment before finally saying, “No matter what you say, I won’t trust you.”
Alpha Kilian was left speechless.
They say that as one grows older, they become more childish. That certainly seemed to ring true.
Seeing Alpha Larry’s immaturity, Alpha Kilian couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Stop it, Grandpa. I promise this won’t happen again. I will inform you of everything, whether you approve or disapprove. I won’t do anything behind your back,” he vowed sincerely.
Alpha Larry’s brows furrowed. Why did that sound strange? He pondered over the matter for a while before shouting, “You little b*stard. Are you trying to make a fool out of me?”
“You’re not a fool, Grandpa. You’re the wisest person on earth. Even if I end up being a fool, you will always remain as smart as ever,” Alpha Kilian shamelessly flattered him.
Indeed, those flattering words managed to please the elderly man. “Hmph! I’ll probably die of a heart attack because of your actions one day.”
Alpha Kilian sighed in relief. “Grandpa, please calm down. This is all just a misunderstanding.”
“Was the young lady who just left the one rumored to be your fiancee?” Alpha Larry inquired.
Alpha Kilian nodded, deciding that he wouldn’t keep it a secret any longer.
“Do you love her?” Alpha King Larry prodded.
Alpha Kilian remained silent, his mind filled with uncertainty.
