Branch One Hundred and Eighty Four
Dawson could not believe his ears. One of the things he wished to have before he died was to have a great-grandchild.
“Now I can die in peace,” he said as a tear left his eyes.
“What are you saying, Dawson?” Jessica said squeezing his hands.
“What more could I ask for? I wanted Xavier to settle down with a good and beautiful woman and I got have beyond my expectation and then I wanted a great grandchild and I was given one. What more cloud an old man like me want out of life?”
“Since you wanted a great-grandchild you have to be around to spoil the child silly” Jessica continued.
Xavier did not counter the grandfather because Ross had kept him updated on the progress of his grandfather and he knew that the clinical tablets and injections they had been using were no longer effective on the man.
“Thank you so very much for coming into our lives. It has had color and cheer ever since” Dawson said.
Xavier did not allow Jessica to stay as long as she expected. He had told her that the doctor said she needed to be careful in the first trimester and not stress herself one bit. He said that she needed to go home and rest up. Dawson seconded and shooed them away from the room.
When they got home Xavier took Jessica to the room and asked her to have a nap. She did not mind the nap but she felt as if he was treating her like a child.
“I know that the doctor said to rest but…”
“If you know what the doctor said when you should rest up” he pulled up the blankets over her body and stroked her hair. “I will have them make something extremely delicious for you to have when you wake up”
She closed her eyes and nodded her head. She knew she might not be able to win in this argument seeing that she was more excited than her to have a baby.
Xavier left her sleeping and went into the study. He had stayed awake all night after she had told him about the baby and he had ordered all the good and recommended parenting books and boos that had to do with prenatal care. He wanted to make an effort. He had the littlest idea on how to handle the situation but luckily for him, he knew how to read very well and he could read to know what to do.
After he had been there a long while he went to check on Jessica and then gave her the meal he had asked them to prepare. After the meal, he suggested they go out for a walk so she could get a little exercise.
She protested because she admitted that she was feeling a bit too tired and she wanted to rest some more.
“As a pregnant woman you need to exercise at least one a day” he explained.
“How do you know that? Have you been pregnant before?” she asked with amusement.
“I read it in a prenatal care book” That statement warmed her heart.
“Since you are making so much of an effort, I will let you take me on this walk”
Xavier was helping Jessica and making a fuss and she was telling him off for it. She was barely a full day of them knowing that she was pregnant and he seemed to have so much already stored in his head.
“Can we go back home?” she asked tiredly as they took a turn on the road.
He opened his mouth to respond to her when the phone rang in his pocket. He wondered who it could be and was in shock when he saw it was Ross. He picked it up and put it up to his ears.
“Hello Ross”
“Hello, Mr. Delgado”
“It’s not been that long since we left the hospital but you are calling us already? Did we miss something?”
“I am calling because of the chairman”
When Xavier heard that statement he felt his heart drop to his legs. It was as if he knew what the doctor was about to say but he was going to wait to hear it by himself.
“What about him?” he asked with a shaky voice. When Jessica heard his voice she diverted her attention to him. Why did he sound as if he was on the verge of tears and trying his best not to burst out?
“He took his last breath at eighteen fifty-four pm”
Xavier was not shocked but he felt a pang of pain shoot throughout his body. His grandfather was dead and he could not scream or shout about it. He did not want to startle Jessica.
“Okay doctor, I will be right there”
“Okay,” Ross said shocked at his calm reaction. When Xavier visited Dawson earlier he had an unsettling feeling within himself as regards him but he threw it off as fear trying to make a mockery of him.
“What is it?”
“Dawson?” he answered in a question form.
“What happened to him?”
“He passed”
“What?” Jessica screamed.
The bodyguards following them rushed to her and Xavier dismissed them with a wave of his hand.
“I need to find my way to the hospital immediately”
“I am coming with you,” Jessica said as if her words were the law at the moment.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“You can not come, just go home and have rest. I will be back soon”
“I have to come with you to say goodbye to Dawson,” she said again.
She felt something warm trickle down her face and it was tears. She never thought about losing Dawson but now that it was happening for real she could not come to terms with it.
“Okay,” Xavier said giving in. “But do not cry, it is not good for the child,” he said wiping off the tears from her face with his hands.
She smiled sadly at him. She could not believe that she was going to say goodbye to Dawson when she had barely known him for less than six months.
“Let’s get back home and get you changed into something warmer” he took her hands in his and turned to walk back to the house.
Please Readers do not give me a hard time. I had a hard time killing Dawson but I needed to do it. Also, the story is coming to an end. I have less than 12 chapters left to share with you.
Thank you all for the support ?
