Branch Forty Three
Jessica had slept soundly afterward forgetting that there was just a huge commotion outside. By six am her body clock woke her up to get ready to get breakfast. She felt more exhausted than usual and did not want to go out of bed.
The only fact that made her stand up was that Xavier only begged her for forgiveness when he realized that she was going to cut his meal plan off and also Dawson had complimented her so very well.
‘Get up Jessica Penelope…’ her thoughts trailed off when she was going to call her name. Was she still to address herself with her maiden name or her husband’s name?
‘Get a grip now’ She screamed internally at herself. Her eyes fell on the peaceful sleeping boy beside her. It was one of two things, either he did not care at all about his surrounding because how can he sleep after the distressing calls last night, or he was faking to be strong enough to sleep through the storm.
‘Only Jesus did that’ Jessica thought again as she entered her closet to change her nightgown to a pair of joggers and an old t-shirt. She would feel more comfortable in them while she cooked. She made her way downstairs to see Roselle already waiting for her there.
Since Roselle noticed that the young master was now eating all the meals prepared by Jessica she promised to help her with all meals.
“So sorry I was late, was feeling very exhausted” Jessica apologized when she entered and saw an idle Roselle waiting for her.
“No need to apologize. But if you are feeling exhausted why don’t you take the day off? I am sure the chairman and young master would understand. You are just coming back from the hospital after all” Roselle had indeed grown a soft spot for her.
Roselle had rushed her to the hospital just two days ago so it should be natural that she worries about her.
“I am fine it was just the short break in my sleep last night,” Jessica said hoping to hear something or anything that made Xavier distressed last night.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Since he apologized she had the urge to hold him and protect him from the world. She was someone who could barely protect herself. She knew that she would probably lose in any battle he had to do with. He was a nig shot so no way he was fighting small battles.
Roselle’s lip was tightly shut as she wouldn’t say anything. Genevieve was not a secret or anything but she would not be the one to go blabbing about it in front of the young lady.
“What is Xavier’s best breakfast?” Jessica asked moving towards the pantry.
“Pancakes” Roselle answered without thinking.
Roselle noticed the sudden affection when Jessica called his name this morning. It was certainly something that was not there at all before now.
“Are you suggesting I make pancakes again this morning?” Jessica asked shouting her head from the pantry door.
“Even for Dawson too?” Jessica added.
Roselle recoiled a little at Jessica’s fondness for both men. It was a good thing Roselle told herself.
“I would make low-fat pancakes,” Jessica said before Roselle could answer.
“I knew I heard people in here” Genevieve purred slowly at them. Jessica’s eye fell on the woman in front of her and confusion set in.
“You must be the wife, hi I’m your aunt in law”
Jessica blinked multiple times at the woman in her front claiming to be somehow related to the family. Was she the cause of the commotion last night?
“You don’t know how to talk? I clearly heard you speak just now” Genevieve said going to the kitchen island to take a banana which she peeled to eat.
Jessica was unsure of the protocol. She has been scolded for suggesting that Dawson came home. Was she supposed to treat this woman with joy or disdain? She did not know what to do. She searched Roselle’s face for answers but they were blank as usual.
“Hello, good morning. I was not aware that someone joined us last night which was what made me startled” Jessica said immediately covering up her lapses.
“It’s okay. I had to make an impromptu trip down here from Las Vegas the most beautiful city in the world” Genevieve said giggling a little.
“Would you like to join us for breakfast?” Jessica asked.
Since she was unsure of the protocol. She might as well do what she wanted to do because Xavier would react either way and she was not going to be walking on eggshells around him any longer.
“Were you not planning to make some for me?” Genevieve asked.
Ever since she had come to the Delgado mansion she had always been treated like a queen. She always concluded that she was supposed to be the one to marry Jon. Jon was Xavier’s father and Genevieve thought it unfair that her younger sister who was also her twin and whom she considered uglier than her was the one who snatched the heart of the billionaire heir.
“You might be uninterested in breakfast” Jessica responded swiftly. There was no way she was going to allow this stranger to guilt trip her. Her duty was to make breakfast for the Delgado family men.
“You can rest up. Breakfast would be ready soon” Jessica said turning when she received no response.
She quickly whipped something up and before she knew it they were all sitting by the table ready to have breakfast. Dawson sat at the head with Xavier by his right hand. Genevieve hastily went to sit by Dawson’s left.
“Only my children get to sit close to me” Dawson murmured as she sat down.
Genevieve had been a pain to Dawson over the years. He could not blame his daughter-in-law for having an awful sister.
“I’m related to you,” Genevieve said.
Ever since she got there her voice had been high-pitched and loudly annoying.
“No, you are not and you can never be. And keep your voice down. This is not a club or a casino. This is a house” Dawson said with a scowl.
Jessica began to get a scope of what was going on. Just like her own Aunt who did not have the luxury of going to Las Vegas to fulfill her gambling spree, this one fed on the money of the Delgado family. Who knew they were alike in this manner?
“Jesus sit beside me instead” Dawson called out to Jessica who wanted to set her tent beside Xavier.
“Move” Dawson added with a huge frown over his face. Genevieve muttered something about being hated and moved into the next sit.
They sat and ate breakfast in quiet comfortable silence before Genevieve looked up to speak. This time her voice was normally pitched and Jessica would finally get the tone of her voice.
“I’m back to stay for good. Give me work to do”
