Chapter 3540
Leonel leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes.
He was well aware that the primary issue between him and Alexis was himself, not Anika.
He had given Anika an opportunity, which was some Alexis found unforgivable.
Leonel returned to the villa.
The servant offered to prepare tea to help him sober up, but he declined with a wave of his hand. However, as he lay on the bed, he felt a burning sensation in his stomach. He reached for the nightstand drawer to retrieve his medication.
He recalled that Alexis had stored the medicine there.
After rummaging for a while, he came across a small, round object, smooth to the touch. What could it be? Leonel sat up, opened the drawer wider, and retrieved the object. Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
It was a small glazed ball, nearly the size of a golf ball, adorned with vibrant colors, exuding an aesthetic charm.
A maple leaf adorned its center.
Leonel's eyes widened in surprise. It wasn't from just any maple tree, but the unique species he and Alexis had planted in their childhood days at the Fowlers’ mansion.
His heart suddenly raced.
Turning it over hastily, he noticed words engraved on the base.
It was supposed to be an anniversary gift from Alexis.
Apparently, she had intended to salvage their marriage at that time, but she hadn't had the chance to express it, and the gift had never been sent.
He recalled that on that fateful night, he had purposely orchestrated Anika's presence to provoke Alexis. He had even arranged for a woman he ki*sed while inebriated to confront Alexis.
On that particular night, he had coerced Alexis into having s@x with him, causing her deliberate harm.
What thoughts crossed Alexis’ mind as she endured the pain? Did she ponder if her years of love for him were in vain? Did she question if such a cruel man was deserving of her efforts to salvage their relationship? Suddenly, Leonel reached out to shield his eyes.
A sharp pain pierced his stomach, causing sweat to bead on his forehead.
Yet, he resisted taking medication, realizing he had lost something more precious than his physical well-being.
Leonel frantically dialed Alexis’ number, but his attempts to reach her were futile. He knew deep down that he'd never be able to connect with her again.
Despite the stomachache, Leonel hurried to the Fowlers’ mansion. A servant informed him that Alexis was away on a business trip and might
return the following week.
