The Last Ceo’s Deal

Chapter 39: Hailstorm of tears

CHAPTER 39.

Christine’s Pov

She walks away, her shapely body swaying gracefully. I turn when someone taps my shoulder and I’m facing Laurel, whose face is screwed in a scorn.

“Christine for heaven’s sake, you’re not supposed to be checking out girls. That’s cheating, you know? You just got married.”

“I wasn’t checking her out.” I reply harshly, my cheeks turning red.

“Trust me you were. She’s pretty though. Not that you are allowed to check her out, I’m just stating an obvious fact.”

This is officially one of the days that I don’t like Laurel, she looks for every opportunity to taunt and tease me.

“Laurel with all due respect…”

“I’m just kidding Christine.” She says with a wink and we burst out laughing.

Silly mofo.

“So, how do you feel Mrs Fanuel?” She asks playfully and I make a face at her which she apparently finds amusing.

“Don’t call me that.”

“But you are his wife.”

“This is a mistake Laurel.”

“It’s a bit too late now to change your mind, girlfriend. You are stuck with him for the rest of your life.”

Gah!

“I know. Don’t rub it in.”

“Okay, I just wanted to see you one last time. Your life is going to be a blur once you start playing wife. Don’t become a stranger though, okay?”

“Laurel, I’ll never forget that you are my friend and you know that. We’ll be hanging out every now and then.”

“Really, so you’re ditching Diana out? Are you saying this just to make me feel better?”

“Of course not! Diana is also a friend but you’re one in a million. You choose to be a friend in need and in time of trouble.”

“Aww…. don’t make me emotional, it won’t work.”

“It’s just that you’re very stubborn and you always get on my nerves and are very secretive.” I stressed the last word very well to her hearing and she clicked her tongue.

“Whatever you’re hiding to save me, I know that it’s for my best interest and I will never ever leave or forget about you.”

“I sincerely hope so. I guess your husband will be here any minute from now so I should get going..”

I turn to look at Fanuel and he is talking to his best man, Edward. They are both looking at me and I turn hastily to look back at Laurel who is grinning.

“Told ya. He likes you.”

“Shut up.”

“Whatever. One more thing before I go.”

“Yeah?”

“I think I found a new crush since you left the house.” Her voice has a playful tinge.

“Aaargh!! You and Diana with crushes, we both know your crushes are overrated. I don’t want to hear about that.”

She pouts. “I’m still telling you.”

“Oh God. Go ahead.”

“It’s Jayden.”

I burst out laughing then I quickly hold myself when I realize that she is actually serious.

“Oh my God!!! Jayden is actually my guy! You don’t have to steal him from me.” I fake a cry

“Shut up Christine, you’re married to a hot CEO. I will scratch your eye if you are eyeing him.”

“I know that right, I’m pathetic but Jeez!! Jayden is a very nice guy.”

“Yeah, and he kind of asked me out.”

I gave myself a palm in shock as I stared at her.

“He fucking likes you too!!”

She grins in happiness and totally looks serious.

“There’s something you need to know about your friend Christine.” I cocked my head to examine how serious she is and asked why, but before Laurel could utter another word I was pushed with a great force that I closed my eyes in anticipation of a painful crack that will burst my head.

A loud shattering sound that is enough to split one’s ear drum tears through the peaceful atmosphere and screams followed. I closed my ears tight and waited for any pain, any sign that my body has been damaged but I feel fine and warm.

Everything happened so fast that I trembled under the comfort of whosoever was engulfing me.

I disentangled myself from this shield and looked up to see a very worried Edward, staring at me and checking all over my body to see if I was bruised.

I opened my mouth to talk but my throat was dried up. I couldn’t utter a word as I stared at the horrified scene before me.

The huge glassy chandelier that was hanging high above was scattered and crushed beyond measure into tiny particles.

My lips tremble, my eyes watered, my face burns in dread and horror as I stare at somebody in front of me.

I was in a daze. No, I think I’m hallucinating.

Laurel was stuck beneath the glass chandelier as the sharp particles pierced the sides of her stomach. If she wasn’t fast enough to swerve her leg, it would have been crus….

Godforbid!! My hands flew over my mouth as I crawled shakily to meet her, oh my God!!

What the hell just happened!!

Jayden was deep frozen on his spot and couldn’t move.

Now everyone was shocked at the turn of events.

As if snapped out from a daze, Jayden moved with an incredible speed and crouched down before Laurel, he checked her pulse and she winced in pain.

Relief washed through our faces as Jayden carried her in a bridal style and dashed outside like a maniac, without telling anyone, we knew he was taking her to the hospital.

The press went mad with questions and camera flashlights blinded our vision. I wondered if this happened in the church and how many people would have been affected from that chandelier damage.

I was still in shock as I stared into nothing, what if I wasn’t pushed from that spot I was standing? What if that glass had actually crushed Laurel’s leg?Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

What if?….

I was shaking and vibrating in fear, I bit my lips and trembled. Why does it have to be on my so-called wedding day?! Why do ugly situations happen to me and affect the innocent ones, just why!!

I felt a wrap on my waist and I whip my head at once to see Easton staring at me with utmost concern.

“Thank goodness you’re ok.” He said breathlessly and I crouched down on his shoulders and bursted a hailstorm of tears.

I was sad and shocked.

I hope Laurel gets better, I think it’s best I leave this place so another damage won’t happen again.

First it was my dress, now it’s almost my friend’s life.

“If anything gets wrong don’t you ever fail to tell me.” His voice was stern and I could feel the warning in his tone.

He kissed my forehead and assured me it would be okay.

Fanuel walks to us and wraps an arm around my waist. I feel the effect all the way to my toes. I know he is just doing it for show but sincerely I can’t help it.

“Hey, you’re the brother, right?” He asks Easton, a hint of a smile on his face.

He still remembers their little encounter.

“You must be the callous husband.” He replies smugly and he nods.

“Yes, and your time with my wife is over.”

“Are you getting stupid by the day Fanuel?” His expression is grim but his words are not serious.

“Should I be?”

“Probably, your wife almost got hurt by that thing you wasted money on and you’re here marking time, I would have chopped your head if something had happened to her. You better paddle the right path and take care of my sister or you will see the beast you never wish to set your eyes on” Then he winks at me. “See you Mrs Fanuel.”

I start to curse but he is already out of sight. Easton is always at loggerheads with this guy

“Your brother is a spitball of fire.” Fanuel comments while turning me to face him.

“Yeah, you’d be wise not to mess with me.”

I grimace at his expression.

I had almost forgotten that he’s already messing with me.
