The Divorced Heiress Is Entering a New Marriage

Chapter 108

I immediately covered my mouth. I couldn’t believe those words had come out like they did. By the look on his face, Logan couldn’t either.

I had never spoken to a boss like that before. But he had just blown my first actual good date in a long time for no good gd reason. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

My shock subsided and I could feel the anger bubbling up again inside of me at the thought. I’m not quite sure what made me do it, but next thing I knew I had picked up one of the wine glasses and threw the wine in his face.

“Hazel! What the hell?” He yelled, quickly grabbing napkins from our table to wipe himself off..

I turned and stormed out the door without looking back. My eyes grew wider and wider the more what i had just done started to sink in.

Once I was outside Chianti, I leaned against the wall right next to the door. I slid down the wall until my butt hit the ground and then I covered my face with my hands. I wanted to cry, but I was too mad at Logan to do so. How dare he. How dare he interfere with my private life after he said he wanted

to forget our kiss and go back to normal. Well I had news for him: this was not normal. This was meddling in highest degree.

I heard the door to the wine bar open. I uncovered my face and looked up. Logan had come out and was headed straight for me.

“Look,” I said before he could say anything to me. “I am sorry I threw that in your face. That’s not like me. But you ruined a perfectly goo….” I stopped myself. “I need you to keep out of my private life.”

Logan froze once he got in front of me. “I was trying to keep you from making a terrible mistake. I know you aren’t the kind of person that messes around behind their husband’s back, I don’t understand what you were doing out with a guy like that.”

My face burned, a mixture of anger and frustration.

“Hazel, I know we’re supposed to go back to how things were before, but I still care about you,” he said.

I stood so I could look him right in the eyes. “Well I need you to care less,” I snapped. “Outside of work, what I do is none of your concern.”

I spun away from him and stormed over to my car. I felt crazy. I felt way more angry than the situation called for and I couldn’t figure out why.

I put my key in the ignition and peeled out of the parking lot. I looked in the rearview mirror, surprised to see Logan was still standing frozen where I left him.

“So no chance of a second date with Dan, I suppose?” asked Rachel, I was laying on my back on the floor next to her bed, watching as Megan sat next to her on the bed, painting her toenails. Maria was spinning in Rachel’s desk chair.

“I don’t think so,” Rachel gave me a pity frown. “He’s not even talking to me anymore.”

I sighed and rolled over onto my stomach. I planted my face right in the floor. “I’m going to die alone,” I

tried to say, but the carpet swallowed my words.

“What?” Maria asked.

I lifted my head a little. “I said I’m going to die alone.”

“Because you had four bad dates?” Megan said.

“Five, technically.” I corrected her.

I couldn’t see her but I knew she was rolling her eyes at that.

oh,

five? Yeesh, you are in trouble,” she said, the statement drenched in sarcasm.

I turned my head to the side. “You guys don’t understand. It’s brutal out there. I genuinely believe there are zero good, available guys left in the world. We missed out. Every last one is spoken for.”

This time I got to witness Megan’s eye roll. “You are actively pushing two of those good men away. I don’t want to hear it.”

I started to stick my tongue out at her, but it hit carpet and made me start to gag.

I hate my life.

When I got to work the following morning, I found a black envelope on my desk. It didn’t have anyth

written on the front of it.

I set my purse down and picked the envelope up. I turned it over. A gold sticker sealed it shut, but there were still no clues as to where it came from. I opened it and pulled the card out that was inside.

“You are cordially invited!” The card read at the top. I scanned the rest of it quickly. It looked to be from our newest client, Huckabee’s. They were throwing a thank you dinner party for us.

I peeked into Logan’s office to see if he had also gotten an invitation. When I saw a matching envelope on his desk, I threw mine into the wastebasket under my desk.

“What was that?” I heard Maria’s voice behind me.

I turned. She was carrying two iced coffees and as soon as she was close enough, she handed one to me.

“Ugh. Many blessings upon you,” I said as I took it from her hand.

“This is my “sorry your five dates sucked‘ gesture.” She bent down and picked the invitation out of the trash. “Why did you throw this away? What is it? It looks so fancy,” she said, turning it over and studying it.

“Oh, it’s an invitation. That new client we landed is throwing us a thank you party. You know, Huckabee’s? I saw that Logan got one too, I’d rather not see him any more than I have to.”

“Girl, you can’t let him keep you from living your life. You should go, put yourself out there. Maybe you could meet someone at this thing.”

I took the invitation from her and studied it, mulling over what she said. “I don’t know…

“It’s one night. Show up at least. If it sucks you can always leave early,” she shrugged.

“That’s true.” I looked towards the bottom of the invite “It says we can bring a plus one. Would you do me

the honor of being my dinner party date?”

She placed her one empty hand on her cheek, feigning surprise. “I thought you’d never ask!” Then she looked at the invitation. “Actually, when is it? I need to make sure I’m free.”

“You’re always free,” I snorted. “But it’s this Saturday.”

She narrowed her eyes at me, then sighed. “Yeah, you’re right. I’ll be there. Oh! Let’s go dress shopping tonight!”

“Oh, okay!” I said sarcastically. “I will just grab my platinum credit card,” I rolled my eyes.

“You better work on that attitude before we go out tonight,” she said, raising an eyebrow at me.

“I dunno, I think it’s pretty great the way it is,” I said.

“Uh huh,” she said. “I’m leaving you now.”

She walked away and I looked down at the invitation again. I sighed and shoved it into my purse.

“Can’t wait,” I muttered to the invitation.
